In addition, current and previous research indicates that a potential noncontiguous multiple property thematic grouping or district consisting of the extant work of distinguished local architect John Byers may exist in the City. There are over twentyfive properties already identified and associated with Byers located within Santa Monica, some of which have been formally designated as local landmarks. A reconfirmed preliminary review of existing Byers designed properties suggests that, according to City of Santa Monica significance criteria related to historic districts, a noncontiguous grouping of thematically related Byers designed propertiesthatcontributetoeachotherandareunifiedaestheticallybyphysicaldevelopment and architectural quality can be identified in the City.
