President s Announcements: President Rod welcomed everyone, especially members of the Rotary Club of Sale Central and guest speaker Solomon Jones and his mum Sue. Next week s program is our traditional breakfast at Pres. Rod s place from 7.30am. Don acknowledged the support of Sale Central for the District Conference and explained how Districts are being reorganized to slim down administration. Sergeant: Guest Speaker: Chairman Danny introduces Solomon Danny called on RC Sale Central member PP Patricia Walton to introduce Solomon. Patricia outlined in detail his illustrious school career including many awards for scientific excellence and his many successes in maths and science competitions including the Science Olympics in years 11/12. Solomon s other interests are wide ranging including music, bushwalking, peer support, debating and coin and stamp collecting. He is currently School Captain at Gippsland Grammar. Solomon outlined his extensive Rotary involvement commencing with a Citizenship Advancement Camp in Canberra where he met and mingled with Parliamentarians and the Governor General along with some 600 other students from around Australia. His outstanding contributions to that camp were recognised when he was one of 6 chosen to attend a New Zealand Camp which gave him the opportunity of advancing his studies in his favourite fields of the environment and electronics. His experience at Air N.Z. s engineering labs and the broader cultural experience proved inspirational.
Solomon Jones addresses the gathering.
Solomon s potential was again recognized when he was one of only 3 chosen from the N.Z. experience to attend Exlab in Germany which aimed to offer students an orientation into university life. Solomon was part of a culturally diverse group and concentrated laser physics, holograms and space flight. He also enjoyed visits to historical sites including castles and a WW2 concentration camp. Solomon described his experiences initiated by Rotary as a wonderful chance to compare education systems and meet like-minded culturally diverse students with similar aims and ambitions. He aspires to study electrical engineering at ANU and with an ATAR score of 97.7 received only today, should have no trouble in achieving this ambition. President Rod thanks Solomon with a small presentation.
