Habitat for Humanity is another piece of the housing needs in our community. Habitat builds simple, affordable homes with Habitat families and volunteers. Habitat for Humanity was started in 1976. HFH has Built 500,000 homes serving 2 million people. Habitat is the 6 th largest home builder in the United States. Iowa Heartland Habitat for Humanity was started in 1990. IHHFH has 107 homes serving 600 people in Black Hawk, Bremer and Butler County. We work in partnership with families by helping qualified modest income families no-profit, no interest mortgages. The ReStore is a discount home improvement online store that sells donated building materials to the general public. Profits from the sales of these items support Iowa Heartland habitat for Humanity. Iowa Heartland Habitat for Humanity ReStore focuses on keeping quality, usable building materials out of our landfills. ReStore accepts new and used material donations from individuals, retailers and contractors, and then sells those materials back to the general public at deeply discounted prices. Our ReStore has been open since 2008 and we have raised enough money from sales of these items to build 4 houses. We do not have a retail location for browsing items. It is done through Antiques R Us on East 4 th Street in Waterloo. All items are listed on our website. When you buy from Restore, you help Habitat build more homes. Habitat is a great partner for building community by engaging homeowners who are invested in their communities. We have put together all new workshops that will save you time and money. And a price that is about 50% less than last year s Convention prices. The 100% Occupancy workshop will give you tips and techniques that will allow you to rent your property faster, and at a higher rate than the competition. Judge Moons workshop will give you a better understanding of Evictions and Small Claims and improve your chances to win if you go to court. The Lead Certification workshop, taught by one of the best Property Managers, will cover when and how you need to comply, forms and will actually demonstrate lead testing and the follow-up paperwork. The government claims that by 2014, 90% of the housing in the US will experience a bed bug problem; this workshop will give you the tools to identify a bed bug problem and knowledge to solve the problem! Turning Judgments in to Cash will give you the letters, forms, and step by step advise so that you will collect every Judgment. On Saturday, Joe Kelly will lead a State Legislative and Court issues discussion. We will have a number of State Senators and Representatives there to explain positions and take questions on Landlord issues. Our Vendors have products and services you need to see. Add in great prizes and you will certainly have fun. For more fun join us at the free Ice Cream Social, Thursday night. Friday s lunch, our wine and cheese reception, and our Grand Banquet is a must!
