Scottish Rite Headquarters & Children's Learning Center Lexington, Massachusetts Flansburgh Associates Completed 2000 Project manager and project architect for the $4.7 million restoration and expansion of a 1908 Colonial Revival-style mansion. The project consolidates all of the Scottish Rite Supreme Council's administrative offices under one roof and accommodates a learning center for children with dyslexia. The overriding design challenge was reconciling the clients preference for a forward looking contemporary headquarters with the surrounding community's desire to preserve the cherished building and site. The design solution expands the original threestory 8,000 square foot mansion with a 26,000 square foot addition, responding to the scale and massing of the original building, and incorporating similar materials including the red water-struck brick and cast stone accents. Construction costs for the addition were contained to less than $129/square foot.
