Project Summary BACKGROUND: Orange Theory Fitness is a new business in the Carillon Square Shopping Center. They are proposing to install one (1) internally illuminated tenant panel in an existing multi-tenant ground sign for their business at 1464 Waukegan Road. The applicant has provided staff with two versions of the proposed signage, expressing preference for Option A. On January 19, 2015, the Appearance Commission granted a Certificate of Appropriateness for wall signage for Orange Theory Fitness at 1464 Waukegan Road. The approved wall signage featured PMS 165C orange, PMS 1797C red, PMS 11C gray, and white text and backgrounds. Option A The applicant has provided staff with a proposed tenant panel which is consistent with the existing wall signage, but conflicts with the existing tenant panels of the ground sign located along Waukegan Road. Currently, all panels within the existing multi-tenant ground sign feature green text with white backgrounds. Option B The applicant has provided staff with an alternate version of the proposed tenant panel which complies with the existing signage of the multi-tenant ground sign. The tenant panel features green text that reads Orange Theory Fitness and a white opaque background. Option A is consistent with the corporate colors for Orange Theory Fitness while Option B is consistent with the existing signage in the multi-tenant ground sign. The applicant has expressed preference for Option A as green does not appear within any existing signage for the business. The Appearance Commission should determine which option is more appropriate. o The applicant has confirmed that the proposed signage will feature an opaque background. o The petitioner shall furnish material and color samples of all proposed signage for review by the Appearance Commission. POTENTIAL NEIGHBORHOOD IMPACTS: The proposed sign is located along a retail corridor and not expected to have any negative impacts upon the adjacent properties. 5
