Introduction Milk production, both from large and small ruminants, is a strategic sector of the Mediterranean economy. Within the perspective of a Euro-Mediterranean free trade zone to be realised in the near future, it is important to create a meeting place between research and professional categories involved in the livestock sector in order to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and to enhance the commercial relationships among the countries in the Mediterranean basin. The Mediterranean Livestock Industry Network (RME) includes scientists, researchers, producers' organisations, processing industries and traders, as well as the public institutions involved in rural development and in the promotion of livestock products in order to meet the demand of society and consumers. Within this concept, after Montpelier in 2004 and Zaragoza 2006, the RME is organising from 16 th to 17 th September 2008 during the Fair of Bari (Fiera del Levante) the: 3 Symposium of the Mediterranean Livestock Industry Network - RME On the STRATEGIES OF THE DAIRY SECTOR IN THE MEDITERRANEAN BASIN Organisation The Symposium is organised by the Italian Breeders Association (AIA) with the sponsorship of the Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policy (MIPAAF), in collaboration with the Fair of Bari.
