VENDOR STUD LOT # S A & H Bridson Opoutere 1, 2, 3, 4 M & A McSweeney Dawn Mist 5, 6 W Potts + H McKenzie Rosemarkie 7, 9 AGR Thomson Tamihana 8, 10 President s Introduction I d like to take this opportunity to welcome members, and potential members, to our 25 th Annual NZ Red Poll Cattle Breeders Association Sale. If you are a first time purchaser you will automatically receive a complimentary Associate Membership for one year which entitles you to three issues of our Association newsletter and a copy of the Sale catalogue for next year. I would like to thank those breeders who have entered animals without you there would not be a sale. Graeme Evans President ORIGINS OF THE BREED Red Poll cattle were developed over a period of time from the merging of two English breeds; the polled Suffolk Dun, famed for their yield of milk and the quality of the butter produced from it; and the horned Norfolk Red, described as a thriving, hardy breed, fattening as freely and finishing as highly at three years as other cattle did at four or five. Red Poll cattle were first imported to New Zealand in 1898 by Sir Heaton Rhodes of Tai Tapu, Canterbury. They are renowned for being efficient converters of lower quality feed to milk and meat. 3
