ISWA Program Highlights The program is almost defined and it already relies on the presence of important figures of global scale on the sessions which are already set. All the "trending topics" of the sector will be discussed during its three days and concluded with focused technical visits on the fourth day. The Opening Session is being set to warmly welcome all delegates to Brazil and to the Congress. The program will include technical and entertainment speeches and presentations and will be finished by a memorable interactive lecture, gave by Mr. Antonis Mavropoulos, chair of the ISWA Scientific and Technical Committee, with special participations from the audience. You are invited to co-create this lecture by pointing songs and musics that reminds you about friendship. Our Facebook and Twitter will be open to your suggestions. Some special sessions have been confirmed during the technical program and will deal with hot themes in an innovative way. The audience will have active participation and will interact with the speakers during these sessions which will include topics such as: - Globalization and Waste Management: global markets, recycling, megacities and waste trafficking are among the issues in this session; - Resource Management: focusing on how to set the basis of a circular economy recovering what is now considered waste; - Young Professionals Group: three sessions under one theme "New Visions and innovations for Old Themes" specially prepared by the Young Professionals Group from ISWA (see more details below). Besides the program designed for the, this year's event will also host some simultaneous conferences, as the 2014 edition of the IPLA Global Forum. IPLA, International Partnership for Expanding Waste Services through Local Authorities, is a program hosted by United Nations Centre for Regional Development (UNCRD) that promotes its annual Global Forum dedicated to discuss possible solutions towards a zero waste society. It s not only about waste! ISWA Young Professionals Group Debut at the Sao Paulo Congress: Panel Discussion and Art Exhibition New Visions and Innovations on Old Themes Content: The ISWA Young Professionals Group, established at the ISWA World Congress in 2013, consists of 30 dynamic young professionals from 18 countries working in the field of waste management. The young professionals first project is the panel discussion and art exhibition with the overarching theme New Visions and Innovations on Old Themes. The four-hour session consists of three sub-sessions with the following sub-themes: Session 1: Paradigm Shift: Changing Lifestyles, Re-defining Responsibilities of Stakeholders and Communication Strategies Session 2: Pilot Projects: Innovative Solutions for Easy Start-up Session 3: Waste Management and Mega-cities: Patterns and Preventative Actions for the Future Each panel will be seated by YPGs, Senior ISWA members and external guest panellists, achieving a fine balance of various backgrounds. It is aimed to use interactive formats to engage discussions among the panellists as well as with the audience. On the other hand, the art exhibition will be an enhancing element to the Panel Discussion, bringing about reflections on a deeper level on the challenges of waste management through artistic expressions. Discover Brazil - Salvador Solar do Unhão. Salvador is the capital of the State of Bahia located in the Northeast of Brazil. With over 2 million inhabitants, the city was the first capital of the country in the Colonial age and it s currently searched by tourists from all over the world due to its gastronomy, music, architecture, and of course, its Brazilian Northeast beauty. Salvador has got various touristic spots that are adored by its visitors, among which stand out Pelourinho, Mercado Modelo and Called Pelô by its locals, Pelourinho is a grand open air Center, seat of countless musical and artistic attractions, like presentations by Olodum, a group that is known internationally as a great artistic representation of Brazil. Solar do Unhão is a beautiful architectonic ensemble built in the XVII century that holds the Museum of Modern Art of Bahia, keeping over 2 thousand works of Brazilian painters such as Di Cavalcanti, Tarsila do Amaral e Portinari. Its Sculpture Park also displays Brazilian artists pieces and its pier carries a restaurant with tables placed open air. In addition, Solar do Unhão offers the best Sunset view of the town. Let s meet in Sao Paulo! Theatro Municipal The Municipal Theatre of Sao Paulo is regarded as one of the landmarks of the city, significant both for its architectural value as well as for its historical importance, having been the venue for the Week of Modern Art in 1922, which revolutionized the arts in Brazil. The design of the building was inspired by the Paris Opera. Inaugurated to the public in 1911, the Theatre has long been recognized as Brazil s premier performing arts venue, and hosted performances by Enrico Caruso, Renata Tebaldi, Maria Callas, Villa Lobos, Toscanini, Nijinski and Anna Pavlova. The Municipal Theatre is over 100 years-old, and after some important refurbishments and revitalizations over time, the Municipal Theatre keeps its beauty and artistic importance and nowadays houses the Municipal Symphonic Orchestra (Orquestra Sinfônica Municipal), the Experimental Repertory Orchestra (Orquestra Experimental de Repertório), the City Ballet (Balé da Cidade), the Strings Quartet (Quarteto de Cordas), the Lyric Choir (Coral Lírico) and the City Choir (Coral Paulistano). It also coordinates the Schools of Music and Dance.
Brazilian Beats Águas De Março Águas de Março was written by Tom Jobim during the 70 s and won international fame when it was recorded as a duo with Elis Regina in 1974. Structured with various elements from the Brazilian flora and culture, Águas de Março describes a typical moment of the rainy season in Brazil, in March, which sets the end of the summer, with pouring rains and strong winds. Around the same time of its original composition, the song got an English version, written by Tom Jobim himself, translated literally to Waters of March, which was sang by many international singers, such as Ella Fitzgerald and Dionne Warwick. Denominated as one of the best Brazilian songs of all times, it inspired various advertising campaigns throughout the years, and it is until today treasured by Brazilians. Listen here!
