The 2010 winners of the ACEC of Kansas, City and County Public Improvement Awards have been selected! Both the city and county awards competitions recognize engineering projects, not for their engineering excellence but for their benefit to the citizens of a community. This is the 49 th year ACEC of Kansas has presented these awards. The City Public Improvement Awards were presented at the Kansas Association of City/County Managers Fall Conference in Garden City on Thursday, November 11, 2010. The winning cities were: City of Onaga for their Water System Improvements Project (Under 5,000 Population); Engineering Firm: BG Consultants, Inc. City of Newton for their Sand Creek Bank Restoration Project (5,000-19,999 Population); Engineering Firm: Professional Engineering Consultants, P.A. City of Dodge City for their 14 th Avenue Improvements Project (20,000-49,999 Population); Engineering Firm: BHC Rhodes City of Wichita for their Cadillac Lake Drainage Improvements Project (50,000 and Above Population); Engineering Firms: Poe & Associates, Inc., Professional Engineering Consultants, P.A., and Burns & McDonnell Engineers The County Public Improvement Awards were presented at the Kansas Association of Counties Annual Luncheon in Overland Park on Monday, November 15, 2010. The winning counties were: Kiowa County for their Kiowa County Courthouse Reconstruction Project (Under 10,000 Population); Engineering Firm: Professional Engineering Consultants, P.A. BWR MERGER ANNOUNCEMENT Bucher, Willis and Ratliff Corp. (BWR) and H.W. Lochner, Inc. (Lochner) announced the merger of the two firms to operate as one entity under the Lochner name effective November 15. Lochner will remain headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, with the BWR offices now functioning as Lochner regional offices. Collectively, the firm now employs over 560 civil and structural engineers, urban planners, environmental scientists, architects, design technicians and support specialists. Lochner now operates in 31 offices located in 18 states. Kenzil Lynn and Steve Hileman will remain as Managers for the Salina and Kansas City Offices respectively.
