Known for Civil War history, Manassas originated in 1852 at the junction of two railroads which linked Northern Virginia and Washington, D.C. with the Shenandoah Valley and Richmond. The major roads into and out of Manassas are Virginia State Route 28 and State Route 234 Business. Interstate 66 and U.S. Route 29 service Manassas, but neither passes through the city itself. Manassas Regional Airport is located within the city limits.
