Ruth Square (Family Accommodation) The University owns twenty three properties on Ruth Square, numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 21, 20, 22 & 23. These two and three bedrooms terraced properties are situated over three levels in the City and Central area and provide self catered accommodation for student families. The Ruth Square houses are ideally situated within a few minutes walking distance of the main University buildings and the Student s Union. Shops in the immediate area sell essential items, for a more comprehensive choice of shops, Broomhill is a 5 minute bus ride away or a 10 minute walk. The city centre is a 20 minute walk or a 5 minute bus ride and there are various bus services in the area which run on a frequent basis. Facilities Each property has a small communal paved garden/yard at the rear. Gas central heating is included in the rent as well as personal possessions insurance if you are a student. University Staff will also have access to the Internet but would need to arrange their own personal possessions insurance. The properties are furnished with fitted carpets, curtains, bed, wardrobe, desk and chair, sofa, table and chairs, cooker, fridge/freezer, microwave, kettle, toaster and automatic washing machine. Also available is a vacuum cleaner, iron, ironing board, mop bucket, dust pan and brush. We do not provide cots, high chairs,
bed linen, towels, cutlery, crockery, cooking utensils, TV and audio equipment etc. You will need to provide your own. External telephone services and Sky TV cannot be installed at this property. You will need to arrange your own TV Licence. Telephone and Internet A telephone line should be installed, however, there will be an extra charge if you reinstate the connection. If Internet is required you will need to contact a local Internet supplier and you will be liable for the charges associated with this. Parking Sheffield has a great public transport system, so we advise that you don t bring a car with you. However, if you do need to bring one a Residents Parking Permit Scheme, administered by Sheffield City Council is in operation at Ruth Square. Residents are entitled to one permit per household, and the possibility of a second subject to availability. Further information about the scheme and application forms can be obtained from Sheffield City Council at: www.sheffield.gov.uk/roads/travel/driving/parking.html Safety and Security There s a dedicated team of University Security staff who monitor the extensive CCTV coverage to look after your safety and security 7 days a week. Council Tax Full time registered students are exempt from Council Tax but non students living in the property will be liable for a Council Tax charge. It is the tenants responsibility to notify Sheffield City Council as soon as possible if a non student is living in the property.
