Curatorship In 2008 Marcos Parga created the initiative UM! (usemadrid!), a platform for discussion and research that invites to take a broader and more active reflection on how to use / improve public spaces in the city of Madrid. The aim is to mix the problems with their (potential) solutions, detect urban conflicts to subject them to analysis and implement this type of unsolicited action / architecture, which sometimes takes place on a standalone way (ephemeral interventions), but generally it will pass on to the institutions that govern the city so that in some way could some day come true. UM! was designed to become a possible link between those who use / think the city and those who direct and decide on it, by encouraging research on the planning of the Spain capital. The results of this collaboration are varied: from the creation, design and direction of the course Building Images. Photography and Architecture (Master Program of the European Institute of Design in Madrid, IED), to the design and marketing of products and proposals of editorial and graphic design and curating. Our lines of products try to connect under the same philosophy all kinds of designs in which the user becomes an active part of the process. It is precisely this anonymous collaboration caused by personalizing what we want to explore, so we generate incomplete objects understood as something open, the promise of what they can become, something that must change to have a life beyond itself, without restrictions. Through the appropriation we create those kind of links that arouse the used objects, those that Bertold Brecht so much loved... 25
