first impressions i was visited Neuchatel for expo site. it was quite big site. it will be a big national festival in swiss. every site has many concept and facility for the events. it would be a big promotion for the culture and goods for swiss. also to show the quality of life and business in this country. people will visit and move to every site. but some people will see little bit cynical for this kind of big festival. some how those kind of observation people who check the attitude of the people and organization for this festival from somewhere near site. i think the big festival need those kinds of people for to criticize this big expo. and then i am thinking to do this time of the art works in there. i would like to arrange the spots for the balcony where people can see the fall festival site. and they check and describe about all of thing. later i want to make a book about the people who came and visited at site.this will be a very important works for my idea and expo. because someone will very cool to criticize for this event ether good or bad. this is my idea for to participate in this time of the expo. action toward a city along with large scale project, i have been making some small works since long time. this work involves assembling small structures on corners in various towns, the materials are from the area and structures are left behind after completion. those structures looks as if they have always been there, rather than has drifted to this particular corner of town. this temporary installation will collapse naturally or return to its original state after the structure has lived its life. decaying buildings and those temporary set up in towns, public squares, or areas which may be developed in the future, may be said to show a transient state during which a change is already happening. assembling temporary structures at several places in ever changing urban areas is done with the premise that these cities will also change. when i can make these structures assimilate into the surrounding environment and then bury them in a daily scene then this work will become a very personal action toward a city. field work maison a neuchatel from Tadashi Kawamata > coordination: c.scheidegger@freesurf.ch > pre-project > march1st 2002 > page 04

backsides a> this building is the first contemporary museum in barcelona made by richard meyer. the massive, white museum is surrounded by local housing. i was interested in the relationship between the museum and this local area as a connection between art and ordinary daily life.i constructed a bridge to project from this white museum to reach out to the local apartments. b> the hut made by natural simple materials becomes a shelter for the inspector who watches people by a political reason. the hut itself looks very much peacefully installed for children, and looks an inspector shelter. this could be the future with these both situations in the city of bonn. c> this is one of the installation pieces at the staatsgalerie moderner kunst, munich. the back side of the building has many columns. one of the columns has hut as like a tree hut. but looks like a more than observation hut or inspector camera set up inside this structure. some how mysteries instillation at the site. d> fotos about project in tokyo with students behind publicity wall at street b> d> a> c> d> maison a neuchatel from Tadashi Kawamata > coordination: c.scheidegger@freesurf.ch > pre-project > march1st 2002 > page 05

the site, the space das hotel des arts befindet sich im gleichnamigen quartier, zwischen expogelände, dem metro-zugang zum bahnhof und der innenstadt neuchatels. das quartier wird während der expo.02 voraussichtlich von besuchern stark frequentiert. das hotel befindet sich in der selben strasse welche direkt zum haupteingang der landesausstellung führt. die betreiber des hotels haben nach einer umbauphase ihre türen vor wenigen tagen wieder für die besucher geöffnet. die zimmer sind einfach eingerichtet und jeweils mit einem kleinen bad ausgestattet. das hauseigene restaurant bietet den gästen den übliche angebot mit frühstück usw.. unser raum ist nicht besonders gross, hat aber einen balkon von welchem aus man sich gute überblicke auf den haupteingang der expo verschaffen kann. das für unser projekt reservierte zimmer befindet sich im zweitobersten geschoss, hat den üblichen standart und eben... den observation balcony. maison a neuchatel from Tadashi Kawamata > coordination: c.scheidegger@freesurf.ch > pre-project > march1st 2002 > page 07

guestbook the guestbook, or so called livre d or in french, plays an important part in the project. it will be one of the traces who remain after expo has closed. all the visitors of the room are invitet to write or draw something down into the 150 to 200 paged A3 book. we are interestet in contribution wich describe the individual point of view of each one. the provided book invites visitors to put theyr critics, theyr stories, theyr expo-relatet history and of course to tell what they see throug the telescope on the observation balcony close to the expo main entrance. an assistant will have to take care about it and savecopy it every month. after expo we want to publish it with the help of Peter Zimmermann who is an editor in zurich. beside the main part from the visitors, there will aso be a smaller artist part wich will describe the idea, the motivation, the development and the process of the artwork. in the appendix you can find the first offer and concept from Peter Zimmermann regarding the costs, the publishing and the edition. he also organized a empty book (blindband) wich shows the product qualities of the future book. maison a neuchatel from Tadashi Kawamata > coordination: c.scheidegger@freesurf.ch > pre-project > march1st 2002 > page 15
