Gossett (b. 1941) received her B.A. from Smith College in 1962. From 1962 to 1963 she studied at St. Hilda s College, Oxford as a Fulbright Scholar. Gossett earned her M.A. at Princeton University in 1965, and a Ph.D. from the same institution in 1968. In 1968, Gossett began her career at Loyola University Chicago in the English Department, and was awarded tenure in 1984. From 1979 to 1988 she was also the director of the Women s Studies Program. She stepped down from that position and subsequently became the Director of Graduate Programs in English from 1989 to 1990. From 1990 to 1996, Gossett was the English Department Chair. Gossett has also held administrative leadership positions on the Ph.D. Council, Faculty Council, and Academic Priorities Committee. Among her many accomplishments at the university, Gossett was named a Faculty Scholar in 2003. Outside of her work at the university, Gossett has written and/or edited numerous articles and books. Titles of her published books include Declarations of Independence: Women and Political Power in Nineteenth-Century American Fiction (1990), and Jacobean Academic Plays: Malone Society Collections XII (1988). Gossett has also served as editor of several new editions of works, including Middleton in Context (2011), Philaster (2009), and Bartholomew Fair (2000), among others. She has written articles that have been published in volumes and textbooks, as well as in scholarly journals such as English Literary Renaissance, American Quarterly, Modern Philology, and others. She was the general editor of Arden Early Modern Drama series, and general textual editor (with Gordon McMullan) of the Norton Shakespeare, 3rd edition. Suzanne S. Gossett Papers Page 1

Gossett was awarded the Folger Senior Residential Fellowship in 2000, a longterm fellowship at the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington, D.C. Gossett researched the play Pericles while at the Folger, for the Third Arden Edition. Gossett was also the President of the Shakespeare Association of America from 2011-2012. Scope and Content The papers of Suzanne S. Gossett comprise of 6.67 linear feet spanning the years 1972-2011.
