Becker Wantz, with whom he would have celebrated 60 years of marriage on Aug. 23. He graduated from Taneytown High School and served in the Army from 1953 to 1955. After his discharge from the military, he was a self-employed bread salesman for many years and later worked as a route salesman for 20 years with Utz Quality Food in Hanover, Pa. After retiring, he and his wife assisted with tours at the Taneytown Museum. An accomplished wood worker, he made furniture and items for each of his children and grandchildren. He attended Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Taneytown and was a member of the Edwin C. Creeger Jr. Post 168 American Legion in Thurmont. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are children Karl D. Wantz and wife Bonnie, and Laura Richards and husband Raymond, all of Taneytown, and Karen Paulsen, of Hanover; sister Shirley Unger and husband Donald, of Frizzellburg; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Harold Wantz. A memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 38 W. Baltimore St., Taneytown, with the Rev. Generation 15 (con't) Notes for Sarah Elizabeth Hoffer: Elizabeth served, with her husband Godfrey as pastor, of the Maracay Community Church. The church is non-denominational and international. It serves the English-speaking community and offers all the normal church facilities. Elizabeth was instrumental in various decorating projects around the church as well as being it's musical leader during the end of their time in Venezuela. It should be noted that in many instances of Elizabeth's name, the spelling of her FIRST name was usually "Sara". However, upon her death (outside the USA) it was necessary to produce a birth certificate and her husband, Godfrey, informed us that the spelling of her given name on the birth certificate was actually "Sarah". Notes for Lois Eunice Hoffer: Jill (Hickman) Pashley called @ 12:30PM October 31, 2011 (530-759-7832) Lois passed away on Sunday, October 30, 2011 just after noon (between 1:00PM and 2:00PM) Jill called 911 for her a few weeks ago and Lois had been in the hospital for a couple weeks in early October due to fluid retention and heart complications. They found she had not been taking her Lasix medication. They got her stabilized and released her to a nursing facility. She was there for a few days and was released to home on Saturday, October 22, 2011. Jill said she felt they released her too soon. Lois told everyone she would be fine. She had a walker and was reminded that she needed to use the walker anytime she moved around the house. This past Saturday, October 29, 2011, she went into the bathroom (without her walker) and used the facilities. She couldn't get back to the bedroom so she allowed herself to "fall" off of the commode and crawl to a phone and called her grandson, Brandon, who Jill indicated lives "just around the corner". He came to the house and carried her to her bed. The family stayed with her all afternoon and evening. She said she was fine and Jill and the children went home.
Generation 15 (con't) On Sunday, her neighbor came to visit and found her on the floor of the kitchen. She called 911 and they took her to the hospital. This was early morning, around 6:30AM. Jill's son went to the hospital with the ambulance and called Jill and told her that the hospital needed the "living will" paperwork. Jill lives about an hour away and before she could get to the hospital, Lois had died. Lois has told Jill (in no uncertain terms) that there is NOT to be a funeral or memorial service. Jill is making arrangements with a funeral home for burial in a plot next to Dwayne that Lois has purchased and paid for, with the burial to be as soon as possible. All of her final arrangements appear to have been at least made known. Not sure how much has been paid for (other than the burial plot) and how much has yet to be handled. (I might be mistaken on that) Jill will be taking the next couple days off from work to make the arrangements. She will keep in touch but doesn't know of anything that is specifically to be given to "our family". She has "pre-given" her "Sleigh" bed to Jill's children. Jill will let us know of any family photos, etc that she finds as she goes through books and other things but that will not be immediately. I told Jill that we would let everyone in our family know of the death and the "no funeral" situation.
