3M Proptic High-Capacity Optical Distribution Frames The Wheel Concept for Optimized Patching A genuine revolution in the organization and operation of optical fiber distribution frames (ODFs) with: No more coiling of patch cords No more crowded jumper routes Single length jumpering fiber patch cord An accurate overview of the patching area which simplifies circuit identification, location and assignment Proptic Classic Range Distribution Frames in Three Standard Sizes A comprehensive range of three ODFs are sized from 72 to 1000 optical fiber connection points. The Classic range of distribution frames are mostly used as main distribution frames containing: Links to electronic equipment Cross-connection and interconnection application Network node Network cables flexible point Cross-connection application Network security point Diversion to backup circuits User-friendly Design and Maximum Safety All the functions are accessible from the front panel. The functions are handled separately to avoid any possible mistakes. Thanks to the wheel concept, withdrawing and inserting a jumper is very easy, whatever its position. All user actions, even emergency actions, are made simple and safe. The Distribution Frame Environment Outstanding density for example, 1000 optical points take up a footprint of less than 0.5 m 2 ( 5.38 ft. 2 ). Advanced pre-cabling allows fast, on-site installations. Proptic System Classic Racks The Proptic system Classic racks launch a new generation of optical distribution frames whose most important characteristic is simplicity. Its low depth of 30 cm (11.81 in.) makes it compatible with the size of most electronic equipment. 92

The Proptic ODF is divided into 4 distinct cells where each has a function. The Splicing Area The Pre-Cabled Area Cable Mooring Cables are moored in the 2 side panels of the Proptic cabinet. Cables can enter from the top or the bottom of the ODF. Each of the side panels can be equipped with: 6 large cable moorings for an overall cable diameter of 8 to 25 mm (0.31 to 0.98 in.) 24 small cable moorings with a 3 to 8 mm diameter (0.31 to 0.98 in.) Moorings are to be ordered separately. Please consult us if you require different combinations. 93 The pigtails from the rear side of the patching wheel are placed on stand-by in the organizer, per module of 12 or 6. The trays are laid out according to the standard color coding of the cables. The trays can accommodate 6 or 12 melting type individual splices. Please consult us if you require other splicings. Transition tubes can be installed to protect fibers from the mooring up to the trays. Tubes are supplied as 1 tube for 6 pigtails. 94 The connectors are pre-cabled in lots of 6 into mini-cable head blocks. The patching wheel can be swiveled to allow easy access to the rear side where the starting points of the pigtails are grouped before they lead to the splicing area. The wheel principle is also used in this area in order to simplify cabling and to avoid coiling. Locks The organizer and the pre-cabled area (at the back of the patch panel) are secured by the same locks. The doors of the rack are also protected by 2 locks (with different numbers). Protection The organizer is protected by a front panel. 95 Rack Dimensions and Capacities Type Dimensions No. of connection Splicing Capacity H x W x L mm (in.) points (1) (2) Classic 200 2170 x 600 x 300 (85.43 x 23.62 x 11.81) 204 216 Classic 500 2170 x 900 x 300 (85.43 x 35.43 x 11.81) 492 648 Classic 1000 2170 x 1200 x 300 (85.43 x 47.24 x 11.81) 1008 1104 (1) Standard SC, EC, E2000, etc. type connectors (2) 6 or 12 individual splices per tray

The Patching Wheel 6-Fiber Pre-Cabled Head Blocks for Cross-Connection Applications 6-Pigtail Interfaces for Interconnection Applications The cable head blocks are arranged in 2 or 3 rings around the patching wheel. This arrangement allows coiling areas to be avoided. The use of jumpering fibers, is is possible with this arrangement which are always the same length. Contact surface between fibers is reduced. It is possible to reassign a jumpering fiber at any moment. The fibers cross at the center of the wheel without being blocked behind a crowded jumper route. 96 Pigtails are grouped into pre-cabled head blocks of 6 connectors. Each head block is made up of: A set of panel interfaces 6 connector sockets with protection cap 6 pigtails in 6 different colors (red, blue, green, yellow, violet and white) The following information is given on the interfaces: The position of the head block on the distribution frame The connector row The position of the connectors on the interface 97 Pigtail interfaces are special head blocks that do not contain a socket in order to save a connection point on a link. The pigtails come directly from the interface and are connected to standard cable head block sockets as described above. In the same way as cable head blocks, pigtail interfaces are pre-cabled in lots of 6 fibers. If pigtails are not used, sockets on the interfaces allow plugs to be placed on standby. These pigtail interfaces are used for interconnection operations. Before being interconnected, the pigtails are in standby position in the center of the cable head. 98 INT and BRA Proptic ODFs are coded according to their patching. BRA: Classic cross-connection application. The patching wheel is equipped with standard cable head blocks. INT: Pigtail patching. The panel is equipped with 50% cable head blocks and 50% pigtail interfaces for both cross-connection and interconnection applications. Please consult 3M if you require other combinations. How to Order Each of the following three pages is dedicated to a Classic 200, 500 or 1000 ODF model. These pages take the form of questionnaires and allow you to choose the form of your ODF. The last page is dedicated to cable moorings and additional head blocks and pigtail interfaces.
