The original Nehrenz people came from Trollenhagen, Germany in November 1869. They landed at the Battery Park Castle Garden on Manhattan Island in New York City on the ship Borussia and then went on to Cleveland, Ohio. SPECIAL and NOTEWORTHY People: This would be the time to extend a special thank you to one very special person within the William Nehrenz family, to whom we owe a huge debt of gratitude, because she was the only person who had extensively researched our family. That person is Claire Talbert. When we first started the Nehrenz Network in 1995, it was Claire who had all the key data and records to get this whole enterprise going. She did all the initial work long before these records started appearing on the Internet. To Claire goes our thanks, because much information would have been lost, had it not been for her. I have met her and her husband Richard back in Ohio, and have been to their home. I also met her mother Elva Brobst. Another person from the William line who has assisted us over the years is Leonard Nehrenz. My three sons and I, back in 1997, accompanied Claire, Elva and Leonard to the various Cleveland cemeteries where Nehrenz people are buried. They took us to the Wade Scranton Cemetery and pointed out the unmarked plots where William and his wife are buried, as well those of the patriarch and matriarch of us all, Johann Christian and Mary Nehrenz. It is sad that these plots are unmarked, maybe one day burial markers can be placed over their interment places. Important Note: This newsletter includes the seven generations of the William Nehrenz line. Our apologies if there are mistakes here. Many of these people are the ones who are reading this newsletter. If there are obvious glitches, we need to hear from you. Thanks ahead of time William Nehrenz was married to Christine Beth on November 11, 1875 at Trinity Lutheran Church Cleveland, Ohio by Pastor H.C. Wyneken. She was the mother of all 8 children. She died April 20, 1902. On November 01, 1904, William, age 51 married Susan Kuehne Koenig, age 41. She had two children named Stella and Henry from a first marriage. Thus she became the step-mother to his 8 children and had 2 children of her own. In the Nov. 1, 1904 marriage record, at the time he resided at 100 Noyes St. He was still a plasterer. He was married to his second wife on the same day as his daughter Emilie Nehrenz married George J. Fritz, Nov. 1, 1904. William would die on December 08, 1928 and Susan would die 17 days later on December 25, 1928. There must be a story here, and if the members of his line have more details to share, that would be interesting. Immigration records: The arrival records for the Port of New York at the Castle Clinton immigration center (at the tip of Manhattan Island, called "The Battery"- the pre-ellis Island immigrant processing place) have the listing: as passengers #80-86: They sailed on the ship "S.S. Borussia" (1855 Hamburg-American Line) and arrived in New York on Nov. 19, 1869. Johann Nehrenz - 49, male farmer, Marie- 50 female his wife, Chr.-23 male, Wilhe. -18 female, Wm. (William)-12 male, Johe. -9 female, H. -6 male -listed as children. Christine Beth migrated with her father who was as a laborer, 39 years old, from Zarneka Pomerania, Oct. 25, 1871 on the ship Cimbria and he arrived at New York with wife Maria age 41, daughter Christe. female age 10, Carl son male age 9, Wilhe. female no age, baby? 2

On Jan. 16, 1878 he signed the constitution of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cleveland, OH along with his brother Friedrich Nehrenz. -George Beier, son, age 35, single, born in Ohio, both parents born in Mecklenberg occupation as engineer station at hospital. -William Nehrenz, head, married, owns the home free and clear, age 67, immigrated 1869, naturalized 1875, parents and he born in Prussia, occupation as custodian at steel works. -Susan, wife, age 57, she born in Illinois, parents born in Prussia, no occupation. -Stella King, daughter, age 25, single, born in Ohio, father born in Prussia, mother born in Illinois, no occupation. -Henry King, son, age 22, single, born in Ohio, father from Prussia, mother born in Illinois, occupation repairing auto work. Note: Stella and Henry are step-children of William Nehrenz, since Susan was married to a Mr Koenig first and then was William's second wife. Also, William s sister Johanna (Nehrenz) Beier, who was now a widow, is also living with them, as well as her son George Beier. So William is living with his second wife, two step-children, his sister and his nephew. Families took care of each other back in those days! Notes: Nehrenz-William, beloved husband of Susan (nee Kuchne), father and grandfather, Saturday p.m., at residence, 2930 W. 12th Street, age 74 years. Remains at Edward H. Lindhorst & Son Parlors, 1610 Clark Avenue, where services will be held Tuesday, Dec. 11, at 2 p. m., and at 2:30 p. m. from Immanuel Lutheran Church, corner Scranton Road and Seymour Avenue.and the informant was Mrs. Susan Nehrenz 2930 W. 12th st. He died 12-8-28 at 12:25 p.m. and had adeno-carcinoma for 3 months and arterio-sclerosis and hypertension for 5 years confirmed by a physical exam. He was buried at Scranton Rd. Ceme on 12-11-28 and the body was embalmed. His death certificate in Cleveland, file no. 10245 for 12-8-28 says he resided at 2930 W. 12th when he died, at 74 years, 11 months, 11 days old and was a self-employed plasterer and was born 12-27-1853 in Germany. Contact Information This is the house at 2930 W. 12 th St. in Cleveland, Ohio where the William Nehrenz family lived for 44 years. Originally the address was 100 Noyes. The street was re-named W. 12 th and the address numbers were also changed. On Noyes St. there were 7 homes in which Nehrenz people lived. This street could have been called Noyes Nehrenz-ville! 12
This is the altar and chancel of Trinity Lutheran Church where William and Christina were married. The Pastor is H.C. Wyneken who did the wedding ceremony. He and his father were some of the founding pastors of the Lutheran Church- Missouri Synod. 13
The 1900 census at the top is for William and Dora(Christina) Nehrenz and since she died in 1902, it was the last census she appeared in. The 1920 census below is for William and Susan Nehrenz. Since they both died in 1928, it is the last census they appeared in. Notice that his widowed sister Johanna Beier and her son George Beier are also living with them, in addition to Susan s (his second wife) children Henry and Stella King (Koenig) from her first marriage. 14

Wade Scranton Cemetery William and his wife are buried in plot 70 (circled on the right) and his father and mother Johann Christian and Maria are buried in plot 180 (circled on the left). 15
