PROFILE Tehran-born Filipino-American Brian Tenorio is a Manila/New York-based design manager and strategic communications consultant for international organizations and the corporate and social development sectors. Strategic Design > Development Challenge (a satellite search of the INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS IN DEVELOPMENT NETWORK FOUNDATION) and also the PHILIPPINE JUNIOR CHAMBER International s Creative Young Entrepreneur for 2007. Tenorio s designs have been shown in art exhibitions in New York and in Manila and were also included in the book 50 Must-Buys from Manila launched December 2008. BRIAN TENORIO Branding * Communications Design * Style After fi ve years of entrepreneurial work in Fashion and Style, Tenorio trained with the Language and Communications Programme of the UNITED NATIONS, with a research focus on National Design Policy Frameworks for Developing Countries (via Pratt Institute in New York). Tenorio is currently an International Consultant for Branding and Design at the ASIAN DEVELOPMENT BANK. He also chairs the Designers for Development Network New York (via Liyab LLC, NY) a group of communications designers from around the world designing for international organizations and development agencies. All this while heading Tenorium Ent., his multi-disciplinary design agency in Manila. Graphic Design and Journalism Work Before designing shoes and accessories, Tenorio designed for multi-nationals and corporations in the Philippines, Europe, and the United States. He has won graphic design awards in Asia, including the ASIAN PRINT AWARDS in Singapore and the PHILIPPINE NATIONAL BOOK AWARDS (2008 Best Book Design). He also worked as an international correspondent for UNITED COLORS OF BENETTON S COLORS MAGAZINE, and as a contributor to major newspapers in the Philippines. In November 2009, Tenorio launched his fi rst project in industrial design: a designer line of luxury caskets and urns in the Philippines Lux Mortem. 3 Tenorio just recently concluded Design Filipino, a series of events sponsored by the most premium retail space in the Philippines, Ayala Malls Group to promote Strategic Design Thinking and to initiate the public dialog on the Philippine Brand. Speaking to more than 2,000 Design proponents from the different major creative industries from across the Philippines, Tenorio surveyed the Design and Creative sectors of the country. Brian Tenorio is also currently working on the The Last Shoemaker, an art-fi lm/fashion-fi lm about the rise, fall, and rebirth of the Marikina Shoe Industry via design, fashion, and business entrepreneurship. Education and Training He fi nished the Managing the Arts Program at the ASIAN INSTITUTE OF MANAGEMENT (2002), after graduating a few years prior at the Ateneo de Manila University (2000). After teaching design at the ATENEO DE MANILA UNIVERSITY s Communications Department, he was the fi rst to teach footwear design and aesthetics in the Philippines at Manila s SCHOOL OF FASHION AND THE ARTS. Tenorio fi nished his graduate degree at PRATT INSTITUTE S DESIGN MANAGEMENT PROGRAM in New York in 2010 (Pratt Circle Awardee, graduated with Honors). Entrepreneurship and Style Tenorio is a member of the AMERICAN INSTITUTE OF GRAPHIC ARTS, the DESIGN MANAGEMENT INSTITUTE (Boston, USA), ASIA SOCIETY (New York), and NETIMPACT. His design company, TENORIO MANILA, won the Battle of the Business Plans competition in the country, and was a semi-fi nalist in the HARVARD BUSINESS SCHOOL 2005 ENTREPRENEURIAL IDOL in Boston, Massachusetts. He is a winner of the 2007 Dutch-sponsored Philippine Bid Tenorio speaks fi ve languages: the languages of design, business, style, international relations, and social development.

UNITED NATIONS 43 Campaign to Promote Multilingualism in the United Nations Four posters from the series (DESIGN IN PROGRESS-final work will be released 3Q 2010) The images used for this campaign are from the UN Photobankreal-life situations within the United Nations organization/system. The goal of this series of posters is to engage UN staff members by emphasizing the importance of multilingual proficiency at work. I selected the images (from the UN Photobank) and created the copy/text for all these posters. UNITED NATIONS (NOT THE ACTUAL TEXT, TO FEATURE DESIGN ONLY) 47 Campaign to Promote the Levels of Language Proficiency in the United Nations Three posters from the series (DESIGN IN PROGRESS -- final work will be released 3Q 2010) The posters are part of a series of six. Each poster represents one of the six official languages spoken in the United Nations. The goal of the campaign is to introduce the Language Proficiency Levels to the UN Staff by engaging them through some form of instant language proficiency test on a poster. ASIAN DEVELOPMENT BANK 49 The goal of the rebranding and redesign was to make activate investment in the region via modern design based on regional themes. Asian Development Bank Central West Asia Department Branding and Design Project 2011 Tasked to create the Design Templates for the department based on the existing Design Guiidelines of the Asian Development Bank. Fetured here is the Widgets Theme which has color-coded widgets to help in classifying the source and purpose of any specif c publication from the Department while emphasizing the artistic themes and motifs from the Central- and West Asia regions.
CENTRAL ASIA REGIONAL CONOMIC COOPERATION PROGRAM 51 Central Asian Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) Program Branding and Design Project 2011-2012 Entering its tenth year of existence, CAREC launched its new look which spans all printed collaterals, exposures (online and on print) appearing in all its ten member countries and off ces. The motifs and themes are based on the design themes of the Central West Asia Department of the Asian Development Bank. Established in 2001, CAREC brings together Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, the People s Republic of China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Mongolia, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. It promotes the implementation of regional projects in energy, transport and trade. Six multilateral institutions (MIs) support the work of CAREC: Asian Development Bank (ADB), European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, International Monetary Fund, Islamic Development Bank, United Nations Development Programme, and World Bank.
