Cultural Proposals for School 2017/2018 www.adartem.it

Founded by Galeazzo II Visconti and rebuilt by Francesco Sforza in 1450, the Sforza Castle is one of the most imposing monuments of Milan, along with the Duomo. The Castle s inside is home to several museums, among which the Museo di Arte Antica with the Sala delle Asse painted by Leonardo da Vinci, the picture gallery with works by Mantegna and Canaletto, the collection of applied arts and the new outfitting of the Pietà Rondanini by Michelangelo. The Castle represents a unique and fascinating historical context also from an architectural perspective, specifically for its defensive purposes. With Ad Artem you can discover it by visiting the secret routes of the Castle!

Primary School

The Building and the Museums Once there was a soldier tour on the battlements, only for fifth-grade classes How was the life of soldiers during the Renaissance? Let s discover it together walking on the patrolling rampart that used to be guarded by the soldiers defending the Castle. The kids can also see first-hand reproductions of ancient weapons and everyday objects. The enchanted castle tour with workshop activity, for first and second grade Let s relive the atmosphere of the court among dames, knights, banquets, celebrations and battles to defend the castle. The workshop activity consist in the creation of a coat of arms inspired by those admired during the visit.

Middle School

The Building and the Museums Renaissance masters: the Pietà Rondanini and other masterpieces GUIDED TOUR A tour to discover the great masterpieces present in the Castle s museums. Inside the ancient Spanish hospital it s possible to admire the Pietà Rondanini from all points of view around the sculpture. It s the undisputed masterpiece of Michelangelo, which he began at elder age and left unfinished. The Sforza Castle: a Renaissance palace or a fortress? GUIDED TOUR In this tour we discover the two souls of the Castle: in the section of the visit that takes place on the outside of the building we can analyze the defensive features of the stronghold and the rational articulation of the spaces that made this castle impenetrable throughout the centuries; by entering the museums, each gorgeously frescoed room reminds us of stories and anecdotes about the two illustrious protagonists of the dazzling court life: Galeazzo Maria and Ludovico Il Moro.

Secret Routes The battlements and the guards room GUIDED TOUR Going up the battlements allows to behold, from a privileged point of view, the structure of the Renaissance castle in its double function of fortress and residential palace. Inside the Carmine tower we find the guards room, were the kids can see first-hand several reproductions of ancient weapons. Renaissance tour: the battlements of the Castle and the Arte Antica Museum GUIDED TOUR The tour connects the battlements with the most fascinating part of the Castle, the rich and elegant architecture of the locations of the Duke s court. The second part of the visit takes place in the Sforza rooms, from the Colombine and Ducali hall to the Duke s chapel.
