photo: Laurent David Ruamps House and studio Ozenfant Avenue Reille 53 75014 Paris The house and studio in Paris for Le Corbusier's friend the painter Ozenfant is an early example of 'minimal' architecture, a prototype of the Domino house and a manifestation of some of the principles which Le Corbusier was to set out in his famous 'five points' It possessed a geometrical clarity inside and out which has since been lost with the elimination of the north-light roof and its replacement by a flat one Project is not public! 1922 Le Corbusier Amédée J Ozenfant Michael_Noordam photo: Michael Noordam Metro: Porte d'orléans (line 4) RER: Cité Universitaire (line B) http://wwwmimoaeu/users/nicolefroehlich/guides/paris/ 4

photo: goa photo: goa Pavillon Suisse Boulevard Jourdan 7 75014 Paris http://wwwfondationsuissefr Cité universitaire was founded in 1921 to provide accommodation and support for foreign students in Paris, with a number of residential pavilions endowed by different national communities The pavilion adheres to Le Corbusier's 'five points of architecture', but with a number of developments since the Villa Savoye The free façade and horizontal window have become a continuous glazed curtain wall, on the south side of the building (above) The pilotis have developed from thin columns to six massive reinforced concrete 'dog-bones' or 'thighs' with their characteristic figure-of-eight cross section to withstand winds While the client accepted the student rooms being raised in mid air, the public spaces were required to be on the ground The plan accommodates them in a separate block sitting on the earth, its curvaceous form contrasting with the simple slab of the student accommodation (text from wwwgalinskycom) photo: goa Project is public! 1930, Artist, Interior architect, Landscape architect, Urban planner Le Corbusier goa Committee of Swiss Universities 1000-1200 & 1400-1700 Station RER B: Cité Universitaire Bus: 67, 21 and T3 http://wwwmimoaeu/users/nicolefroehlich/guides/paris/ 8

photo: goa photo: goa Cité de Refuge Rue Cantagrel 12 75013 Paris The Salvation Army Refuge in Paris was Le Corbusier's first opportunity to create accommodation for the urban poor The compact site provided the chance for a radical approach both to bringing in light and space and to laying out the entrance halls to accommodate the Salvation Army's reception process The core of Le Corbusier's design was the dormitory slab with a sheer glass curtain wall Critical to the success of this south-facing glass wall was to have been a technologically ambitious system of double glazing and air conditioning ('respiration exacte') These were never built as intended, and the sheer skin of the wall was lost to Le Corbusier's trademark brises soleils later on in an attempt to prevent the inhabitants from overheating In the spirit of the free plan, Le Corbusier took the entrance hall components out of the dormitory block, constructing a geometric pathway through separate reception buildings outside (text from wwwgalinskycom) photo: goa Project is public! 1929, Artist, Interior architect, Landscape architect, Urban planner Le Corbusier goa Armée du Salut (Salvation Army) Telephone: 01 53 61 82 00 Take the RER to Bibliothèque François Mitterand, and choose the Rue du Chevalaret exit Walk south along Rue du Chevalaret, and at the first junction turn backwards right up rue Cantagrel The Refuge is a few meters up on your right http://wwwmimoaeu/users/nicolefroehlich/guides/paris/ 10
