NEW YORK HOLIDAY EXHIBITION Photo (1948) courtesy of Le Musée Privé C H U A N G C H E 4 Born in 1934, Chuang Che is one of the pivotal innovators of the Taiwanese modern art movement. The son of a calligrapher and classically trained at the National Taiwan Normal University, Che creates works that pull from the traditions of Eastern painting, but synthesize these ideals with elements of Western styles, of which he was exposed to in the mid-1960s when he moved to America. Today his work has global recognition for fusing Eastern and Western ideals in abstract painting, and he has exhibited at museums and galleries in North and South America, Europe, and Asia. NEW YORK HOLIDAY EXHIBITION Photo courtesy of www.gilles-gorriti.com G I L L E S 8 G O R R I T I G illes Gorriti was born in Paris in 1939, and would grow up to become an avid disciple of the French Modernist movement. His exposure to the artistic world began immediately, as his father was the renowned artist Paul Aizpiri. The young Gorriti spent his youth observing and learning from his father before eventually receiving a formal artistic education at the Atelier de la Grande Chaumiere, where he began to develop his own unique style - one which would focus highly on color. As a colorist, Gorriti is a virtuoso in using the full range of his palette, creating both subtle, unobtrusive fragments and vibrant blocks of color. The effect is stiking, creating moods and stirring emotional responses from the viewer. FINDLAY GALLERIES

ART FINDLAY EST. 1870 D A V I D F I N N D avid Finn was interested in painting ever since he was a child, not only using his bedroom as a makeshift studio, but also passing his time on his commute to school sketching the people he saw around him. He continued to draw and paint as he grew older; however it was through photography that he gained recognition. Though known for these photographs of sculptures, it was always his watercolors that he used as a personal outlet for his creativity. These works focus on the trees that surround his Westchester home, and utilize a variety of styles, varying from those that feature bold colors and lines to those that are delicate, almost oriental in style. 13 SMALL CONTEMPORARY WORKS

NEW YORK HOLIDAY EXHIBITION R O N N I E LANDFIELD 20 Born in 1947, Ronnie Landfield knew from an early age that painting was his passion. Before his formal education, he would spend his free time in the avant garde galleries of the time, viewing works by Jackson Pollock, Ad Reinhardt, and Willem de Kooning. By 20 years old, Landfield was invited to exhibit at the Whitney Museum of American Art, and his works were included in the museums following two biennials. Since then, Landfield has continued to achieve success, and his lyrical abstractions have become icons of the modernist Colorfield movement. Today, his works are in the collections of such prominent museums as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum, the Art Institute of Chicago, and more. NEW YORK HOLIDAY EXHIBITION PRISCILLA H E I N E B 30 F I N D L AY G A L L E R I E S orn in 1956, Priscilla Heine grew up in New York City. From a young age, Heine knew that art, painting, and drawing were essentially to her identity, and this knowledge prompted her to seek training throughout her formative years. Inspired by the scenes of her home of New York City s Lower East Side as well as the landscapes she witness in places like the Mediterranean and Northern Vermont, Heine creates works that range from color-fields, to austere landscapes and symbolic compositions, to internal and external landscapes. She strives in her works to create a sense of formal abstraction, but simultaneously include intimate personal references.

NEW YORK HOLIDAY EXHIBITION HENRIK SIMONSEN 34 Born in Denmark in 1974, Simonesen first began to study art in his own native country and, despite his eventual move to the United States and, later, England, certain traditional Scandinavian elements continue to find their way into his works. Above all, drawing is central to Simonsen s work, stemming from the directness of the mark-making process and the simple way lines on a surface create shapes and forms. His works employ a unique contrast of meticulously drawn lines and a more abstract application of paint, which Simonsen often pours of throws on to the canvas. The resulting scenes are organic, the plants featured seem to grow onto the canvas in layers, informing one another in their creation. FINDLAY GALLERIES
