Turkey, conditions in seven foreigners detention centers (attachments) p 5 of 13 Attachment E Edirne Tunca detention facility, Building 1, Men s Ward, second half of 2008, approximate floor-plan measurements: 233 m 2 total (169 m 2 sleep area) no. of occupants: 120-150 usual shower stalls: door-less, only one had shower fixture, a blanket provided privacy, other two stalls were used for dishwashing. toilets: one functional, two had broken doors and drains, sinks: all three had broken drains, they drained externally into a bucket and then in the middle toilet. hot water: 2 to 6 hours per week, in warm weather bedding: 55 beds, 39 full mattresses & 55 blankets in dirty and worn out conditions. dishwashing bath in poor state of repair and cleanliness 6 x 7.5 m 2 only 4 beds had full mattresses had no artificial lighting 6 x 6 m 2 single bed occupied by appointed ward controller hot/cold water dispenser 5.5 x 13.5 m 2 female section entrance gate, meal distribution solid door opened for meals 3 times a day wall fan phone usually obstructed by detainees crammed under bunk beds window fan wall TV 5.5 x 9 m 2 only 12 beds had full mattresses above: day and night at middle market each day inmates waited at this window for their orders to be taken or delivered by a shop-owner one item at a time through the bars.
