History of the SAN PASQUAL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Here in the San Pasqual Valley, in 1896, the Seventh-day Adventists began operating an elementary school. Classes have continued here since that time, making this school the oldest west of the Mississippi River operating without interruption. School first began in 1896 in the home of Henry Johnson with only three pupils for the first two years. In 1898 this building was erected by Lawrence Johnson and William Potts on land owned by the Peter Georgeson family, which was later donated to the school. The building originally stood about 300 yards north of here next to the present girl s dormitory. The classes began in this building in February 1899. In about 1944 a second building of concrete blocks was built by Julit Judson, Lawrence Ferguson, W. O. Baldwin and others and used until 1950 as a second room. This building still stands beside the girl s dormitory. When the Academy was built in 1949 the second building was put to use as a laundry and the present lower-grade room was constructed. In the interim between then and now, the original building has made several moves and would have fallen to the demolition crews had it not been for the efforts of the Ervin Georgeson family, who purchased the old school and moved it onto their property to preserve it. In 1962 the Georgesons donated the building to the San Pasqual church, who shortly had it moved to this site for a museum. In the years since 1896, many teachers and students have shared their joys and sorrows within these hallowed walls. Lack of space and records makes it unfeasable to list the students here, but many have gone from here to fill responsible positions in the church as Christian workers at home and abroad.
