Saunders, 71, retired employe at the Washington State Penitentiery, died Sunday at a local hospital. Saunders resided at 510 S. Second Ave. A Richland, Ore. resident prior to coming to Walla Walla in 1950, Saunders was born Sept. 11, 1897 in New Bridge, Ore., the son of Mr. and Mrs. George B. Saunders. Following his graduation from Richland schools, he was associated with his father in the Saunders Brothers Merchantile in Richland. May 17, 1918 he married Nina M. Moulton in Baker. until three years ago Saunders was a penitentiary employe and he and his wife were among the first to encourage the American Contract Bridge League of which he was a member at the minimum security section of the penitentiery. Saunders was a member of the Methodist Church of Richland, past master of Pine Lodge 149, AF & AM of Halfway, Ore.; Baker Council 16, Royal & Select Masters, Keystone Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of Baker, the Baker Commandery 9, Knights Templer of Baker and the Al Kader Temple of Portland. Surviving Saunders are his widow, Nina at the home; a daughter, Mrs Ralph H. (Betty) Jones of Milwaukie, Ore.; his sisters, Mrs. C. C. (Mabel) Frazier of Milton-Freewater, Mrs. Esther Scheidt of Vancouver, Wash., Mrs. L. B. (Lida) Moore of Ceres, Calif. and Mrs. Harold M. Frazier and the late Mr. Frazier of Milton, to Gerald L. Schauermann, son of Mr. and Mrs. John A. Schauermann of Fort Morgan, Colo. was solemnized Sunday December 26, at the Harold M. Gray home in Walla Walla. The Rev. J.A. McKee officiated at the double ring ceremony in front of the fireplace. The stairway was lighted with tapers in candelabra as the bride came down on the arm of William A. Domscoht, her brother-in-law, who gave her away. Keith Graves of Portland was best man. Mrs. Willliam Domschot, sister of the bride, was matron of honor. Cheryl Domschot was flower Girl; Master David Piff was ring bearer; candle lighters were Mrs. William Roesch and Mrs. Gustav Piff. Nuptial music was played by Mrs. Lois Roduner and Miss Hisako Kido of Nyssa sang. Ushers were Gerald Jones of Milton and Irwin Rand of Freewater, both of whom are fraternity brothers of the groom. Mrs. Gustav Piff, cousin of the bride, served the wedding cake and Mrs. William Roesch served ices. Miss Marjorie Sims poured. Others assisting were the Misses Gwen Toner, Carmen Buff, Bonney Scott and Hisako Kido. Mrs. Donald Wollaston, Cousin of the bride from El Monte, CA had charge of the guest book. Mrs. William Midcap, twein sister of the groom; from Ft. Lupton, Colo. had charge of gifts.
