Live on Campus... for the experience of a lifetime For more information, visit HOUSING.UH.EDU or call 713.743.6000. U H

Living on campus makes it easier for me to be more involved in student organizations and activities. In addition, I m not wasting time driving home, which gives me more time to study. ~Tammy La, Supply Chain Management, Class of 2016 Achieve Academic Success Research indicates that students who live on campus are more satisfied with their college experience, earn higher grades and are more likely to graduate than their commuting peers. Save Time and Money You don t have to waste time buying gas, fighting traffic or hunting for a parking space before class. I love living on campus because I get to interact with students from different backgrounds in my residential hall. I also am able to make strong, long-lasting friendships with them by hanging out and going to social and academic events on campus. ~Jonathan Solomon, Petroleum, Class of 2016 Make New Friends It s much easier to get acquainted with your peers when you are living down the hall from them and participating in activities that take place right where you live. When I can wake up 10 minutes before class and still get there on time, that s freedom. That s living on campus! ~Ryan Johnson, Public Relations, Junior Convenience You are just a short walk from your classes, campus activities, sporting events and student services such as advising, health services and dining areas. You Don t Have to Cook! While kitchens are available, the dining halls offer affordable meal plans and exciting menu options. Campus living also provides easy access to national franchises such as Starbucks, Chick-fil-A, Taco Bell, Subway, Pizza Hut, Smoothie King and McAlister s Deli. Why students love living on campus 1

Residence Hall Association The Residence Hall Association (RHA) plays an important part in the residential experience. Every student living in the UH residence halls is a member of RHA and may participate in the programs organized by RHA. Meetings are held biweekly and are composed of representatives from each hall or living area. Representatives address current issues, review policies and sponsor programs to enrich the living environment for the residence hall community. RHA consists of an executive board elected the preceding year by the residential population, as well as individual hall representatives. RHA is an exceptional opportunity for students to get involved and give back to their community through leadership opportunities and programs. First Year Residential Experience (FYRE) The FYRE program is designed to reach all first-year students living in the residence halls. The program aims to ease students transition to campus life through meaningful opportunities to interact with campus partners, faculty and peers. Students will take part in programs and services specifically designed for first-year students, including academic, cultural and social events, as well as sessions on student success, financial aid, career advising, etc. Residential Theme Housing Similar to living-learning communities, theme communities are where residents who live in the same residential community are connected to each other by similar backgrounds or interests. Any student in any major or academic program can participate in a theme community. Examples include, but are not limited to, Sustainability, Second Year Experience, Wellness, etc. For more information, visit http://housing.uh.edu/about/living-learning-communities. Living-Learning Communities Living-learning communities (LLCs) are intentionally developed collaborations with Academic Affairs where residents who live together on a residence hall floor also participate in a curricular component directly connected to an academic program or department. For example, students living together may also take one or more courses related to their major. LLCs may include, but are not limited to, Business, Engineering, Hotel Restaurant Management, Honors, etc. 2 For more information, visit housing.uh.edu or call us at 713.743.6000.
