Materials in the collection are divided into three groupings: guidelines and handbooks; issue puplications; and project master plans, reports and surveys. They are listed by title and while much of the material focuses on building reuse and rehabilitation in Michigan, there are other publications that cover community planning and historic preservation across the country. Biographical Note Elisabeth Knibbe is a FAIA, LEED, and AP certified architect who graduated from the University of Michigan with a BA in Arcitecture (1976), Master of Architecture (1978) and Master of Urban Planning (1978). Her areas of expertise includes adaptive reuse projects and working with local, state, and federal agencies to save particular qualities of historic buildings while also creating renewed spaces that meet the needs of the client and the building user. In 2016, Knibbe was awarded the Michigan Historic Preservation Network's 2016 Lifetime Achievement Award for her 30 year career focused on using historic preservation to create economically viable, strong, and beautiful communities in particular the redevelopment of Detroit and other economically depressed communities. Knibbe lives in Ypsilanti and works for Quinn Evans Architects, a firm that promotes preservation and sustainable stewardship in the built environtment.
