7,000 Miles of Decisions: Building a Home for the Preston Family www.newrockhomes.com The Preston s Story Christine Preston (Newrock Homeowner) Building a house with my husband gone was tough, Christine says, explaining that Kent s current career usually allows him to be home only four weeks of the year. Eric (Newrock s owner) and Clint (Construction Manager) I just can t say enough about them. They had to put up with me through the whole process! The 3,000 square foot home features three large bedrooms, two and a half bathrooms, a great room, sitting room, family room, children s playroom, and countless upgrades. While Christine often admitted feeling overwhelmed trying to remember her selections, the home design has an unmistakable attention to detail that is fast becoming a Newrock characteristic. The original floor plan that I picked was completely different from how the final project appears, she says. Newrock allowed me to make so many changes to suit my family. Changes include a children s playroom off the great room, a private second floor covered porch, as well as a master bathroom suitable for a five-star hotel; spa tub, designer shower with a rainfall showerhead, spray-jets, and a heated towel rack. For Kent and Christine Preston, building a house presented a few extra challenges that most new homeowners never have to experience. Making decisions on flooring, paint color, or granite was additionally difficult because Kent s job in Afghanistan put him at a 7,000 mile disadvantage. However, the outcome of their long-distance effort is beautiful.
The kitchen is a chef s dream, but is full of the clever efficiencies a busy mother can appreciate. I m pretty lazy, Christine joked, so we found great ways to organize the kitchen to make things easier. The drawers are built to easily arrange and store her dishes and are directly across from the dishwasher to save steps. She also arranged the kitchen close to the garage to allow for easy loading of groceries into the house. The customized kitchen is a chef s dream, but is full of the clever efficiencies a busy mother can appreciate. For such a grand home, the building process went surprisingly quick. They decided to build the house in March, beginning the well-drilling and septic process, but didn t actually break ground until September. They were able to move in right before Christmas, when her husband was due home for his vacation. The Preston s Story Continued... I was up here every day watching the progress and bringing donuts and pizza to the guys, she says. Everyone who worked up here was incredibly nice. She continues, I think I made it harder on myself than I had to, but whenever I was freaking out about making a decision on my own, I would call Eric or Clint and they would always help me find the answer. And what does her husband think about their new house? Well, we have pretty different taste, she says.
