Monthly update of MTR facilities for passengers with disabilities 1. Ma On Shan Line The installation of Automatic Platform Gates at Ma On Shan Line has commenced at Tai Wai Station in November 2014. It is planned to complete the installation at all 9 Ma On Shan Line stations by 2017. 2. Nam Cheong Station To facilitate the development of property outside the station, Exit D2 was closed in the period from September 2012 until December 2018. The existing barrier free facilities will not be affected. 3. Diamond Hill Station To facilitate Shatin Central Link modification works, the Braille map has been suspended for revision. The project is targeted to complete by end 2019. 4. Hung Hom Station To facilitate Shatin Central Link modification works, the modification of the tactile guide paths at concourse level was started in August 2014. The project is targeted to complete by end 2020. 5. Kowloon Tong Station To facilitate the replacement works at East Rail Line Northern Concourse, the tactile guide paths will be modified and the Braille Map has been suspended for modification. The project is targeted to complete by Q4 2017. 6. Tsuen Wan West Station To facilitate the development of property outside the station, Exit C was closed in the period from 29 December 2015 until the end of 2018. The existing barrier free facilities will not be affected. 7. Tsim Sha Tsui Station To facilitate the construction works of Tsim Sha Tsui Carnarvon Road subway, Exit D2 was closed in the period from July 2016 until. The existing barrier free facilities will not be affected.
8. Yau Tong Station To facilitate the station improvement works of Yau Tong Station, the modification of the tactile guide paths at concourse level was started in November 2017. The project is targeted to be completed by Q2 2019. 9. Tai Wo Station Replacement of passenger lift connecting B Footbridge with Platform 1 has been completed; passenger lift was re-opened for public use from 29 November 2017. From 1, the lift connecting B Footbridge with Platform 2 (trains towards Hung Hom) will not be in use while refurbishment work is carried out. The lift between the Concourse and Platform 1 (trains towards Lo Wu/Lok Ma Chau) will remain in service. Passengers going in the Hung Hom direction from Tai Wo could consider using the lift to Platform 1 and travelling on to Fanling, then changing trains to return towards Hung Hom at Fanling. Passengers going to Tai Wo in the Hung Hom direction could consider travelling one stop more to Tai Po Market and changing trains to return to Tai Wo, then using the lift at Platform 1 to the Concourse. To cope with the lift replacement works, accessible car service will be serving wheelchair passengers as alternative means to convey wheelchair passenger from Tai Wo Station to Tai Po Station starting from 1. Wheelchair passengers can phone duty Station Controller of Tai Wo Station at City Line No. 2650 7097 for making arrangement upon arrival at Tai Wo Station. Under normal condition, the expected waiting time of the accessible car service is less than 30 minutes. The project is targeted to be completed by mid-january 2018. Dimensions of the accessible car saloon: height 132cm, width 66cm, length 200cm. Size of the wheelchair not exceed the above standard could summon the service. 10. North Point Station To cope with the lift replacement works, accessible car shuttling between North Point Station and nearby stations with public lifts is serving wheelchair passengers as alternative means of access starting from 3 July 2017. Wheelchair passengers can phone duty Station Controller at City Line No. 2922 4750 for making arrangement upon arrival at North Point Station. Under normal condition, the expected waiting time of the accessible car service is less than 30 minutes. The project is targeted to be completed by the end of January 2018. Dimensions of the accessible car saloon: height 132cm, width 66cm, length 200cm. Size of the wheelchair not exceed the above standard could summon the service.

Wheelchair passengers can phone duty Station Controller at City Line No. 2923 5026 for making arrangement upon arrival at Wan Chai Station. Under normal condition, the expected waiting time of the accessible car service is less than 30 minutes. The project is targeted to be completed by early May 2018. Dimensions of the accessible car saloon: height 132cm, width 66cm, length 200cm. Size of the wheelchair not exceed the above standard could summon the service. 12. East Rail Line To facilitate future Shatin to Central Link operation, the tactile guide paths on all East Rail Line platform will be modified to suit the new train door centre. 13. Notes to Wheelchairs users In stations We would like to ask for the assistance of passengers using motorized wheelchairs in stations. Because of the layout design and the location of pillars and corners other passengers might not see you or be aware of your presence ahead of time and may not be able to move quickly out of your path. Please could we ask that you travel at a speed equivalent to a walking pace inside the stations especially on the platforms. On trains Because of space constraints, only one electric or two manual wheelchairs may board each carriage of the train into the multi-purpose area. The staff assisted portable ramp service can be provided upon request into the multi-purpose area of the front carriage. Assisted boarding of one wheelchair is arranged per train. However subject to the prevailing condition, wheelchair users are welcome to board the train without staff assistance through the 3 rd door of any of the other train cars. We are making improvements to many of our existing stations, and all our future lines will incorporate easy access facilities. Facilities for Visually Impaired Passengers TACTILE GUIDE PATHS are installed at all stations and Light Rail Stops. MODIFICATION OF OBSTRUCTIONS such as litter bins and fare maps making them more easily detectable to cane users has been completed in all stations. ESCALATOR AUDIBLE WARNING SIGNALS are installed in all stations to help passengers locate escalators at platform and/or concourse level, and identify the running direction of the escalator. PLATFORM TACTILE YELLOW LINES are installed in all stations without Platform Screen Doors. BRAILLE plates have been installed on Ticket Issuing Machines (not Light Rail) and Add Value Machines, and in public toilets, lifts in certain stations and Platform Card Processors at Light Rail stops. COLOUR CONTRAST GRAB POLES are provided inside the compartments of trains. A BUZZER sounds when the train door is closing. COLOUR CONTRAST INTER-CAR BARRIERS are fitted between train carriages to prevent passengers stepping on to the track between train carriages.
Facilities for Hearing Impaired Passengers INDUCTION LOOPS to assist hearing aid users are installed at all Customer Service Centres and Ticket Offices. INFORMATION CARDS to facilitate communication between staff and passengers are available at all Customer Service Centers (except Light Rail stops). PASSENGER INFORMATION DISPLAY SYSTEMS are installed at the entrances, concourses and platforms of stations. FLASHING SYSTEM MAPS showing the location and direction of the train are installed on trains on Island Line, Kwun Tong Line, South Island Line, Tseung Kwan O Line and Tsuen Wan Line. ACTIVE LINE DIAGRAMS are installed in Airport Express and Tung Chung Line trains. ON TRAIN INFORMATION INFOPANELS display next station information and operational messages in the following trains: East Rail Line, Island Line, Kwun Tong Line, Ma On Shan Line, South Island Line, Tseung Kwan O Line, Tsuen Wan Line and Light Rail. LCD INFOPANELS display next station information and operational messages in the following trains: Airport Express Line. NEWSLINE EXPRESS screens display the next station and operational messages in the following trains: East Rail Line, Ma On Shan Line and West Rail Line. Facilities for Mobility Impaired Passengers MULTI-PUEPOSE SPACES are provided in all trains.
