Benefits Strength No sagging, warping or splitting as with a wood framed home. Walls and corners are straighter with fewer potential cracks. Over time, wood will deteriorate causing the structure to lean, become unstable, or attract damaging insects. A steel paneled roof will resist damaging elements, such as hail, far better than a shingled roof. Fire Safety An unfortunate fire can quickly engulf a traditional framed home due to the great amounts of wood present. Some reports claim that home fires cause over 4,000 deaths every year. Steel frames will not fuel a potential home fire, as a wood frame will. Steel home owners may even see lower insurance costs. Termite/Mold Resistance Termites are one of a home s worst enemies, steel framed homes are virtually impervious to termites and other wood-infesting insects.
