Notes for Margaret Sim: Margaret Findlay told me that a lady in Turriff, Mrs Mcleod, was related to the Sims. She said that she was descended from George Sim on her mother's side through a daughter of George's called Margaret. At first there was no sign of a Margaret in his family. However, in the 1871 census there is a Margaret Sim, aged 6, living with George and Elspet whose relationship to the head of the house is a granddaughter -- so she must be the child of one of their family. Looking for a Margaret Sim born c1865 I found that she was the child of George Sim and Margaret Chalmers. The birth certificate did not give an address for George Sim, but because she appeared at Gourdas the assumption was that it was the correct George. The marriage certificate strengthens the link since Margaret's address is Gourdas and the wedding was held there. I was not able to check the Kirk Session minutes re an illegitimate birth since the minutes are not avaiable in SRO for that period. Mrs McLeod also said that Margaret had married Alex McDonald, a taxidermist. The name on the marriage certificate is correct though he must have been a part-time taxidermist, like George.
