photo: Søren Sandved photo: Søren Sandved Strandveien 37 Strandveien 37 7042 Trondheim In 2001, the rather run-down industrial area in Trondheim called Svartlamoen was re-zoned for residential use In 2005, this project was inaugurated and 31 people moved into the two wooden buildings The taller and more conspicuous building facing Strandveien contains a commercial space and five flats, each shared by a collective of 5 to 6 people The smaller building contains one-room flats The architects eagerly point out the high residential density of the building: 20 square metres per person, in sharp contrast to the otherwise expansive needs of Norwegians (at 50 square metres per person, the most generous in the world) The project's density, construction technique and rough detailing account for the low cost of the building; and, by Norwegian standards, the spectacularly low rent of 305 euros for a share in a flat The project lives up to its solid timber appearance, though only the exterior walls are loadbearing This provides a column-free space on each storey Project is not public! 4-2005 Main designer, Client Geir Brendeland Olav Kristoffersen Svartlamoen Bostadsstiftelse Claes_Sorstedt photo: Søren Sandved http://wwwmimoaeu/users/pguilherme/guides/trondheim/ 3

Borkeplassen Nordre gate 11 NO 7011 Trondheim Designed to replace the traditional timber-built quarter after a catastrophic fire in the city in 2002 An architectural competition was launched and the winning project comprises retail on the lower two levels, and apartments and offices on the upper levels The architects have delightfully used timber and glass as the main materials forming a dynamic façade with diagonal and vertical structural elements Project is public! 2004 Located at the city centre http://wwwmimoaeu/users/pguilherme/guides/trondheim/ 6
Rockheim Brattorkaia 14 NO 7010 Trondheim http://wwwrockheimno/ Rockheim will accommodate the Norwegian centre for Pop and Rock including an educational museum for music It is located in the harbour and fjord area of Trondheim in a warehouse of 1920s The external envelope of the warehouse is maintained with limited alterations while the internal space is transformed dramatically to house the new uses The most impressive architectural element is the large glass box on the top of the existing warehouse with LED lighting and music related graphic images Public access unknown! 2010 3200 m² Pir II s 20 minutes walk from Tondheim's Central Train Station http://wwwmimoaeu/users/pguilherme/guides/trondheim/ 7
Dokkhuset in Solsiden Dokkparken 4 NO 7014 Trondheim http://wwwdokkhusetno/ An extended pump house in Solsiden was transformed to a house of performance arts It comprises a stage, concert hall, restaurant/bar and offices The extension is denoted by the use of copper cladding while the existing brick walls and deep window reveals were maintained It is also worth mentioning that the pump of the dry docks is visible through the glass floor in the bar Project is public! 2006 700 m² Skibnes s 20 minutes walking distance from the city centre (market square, where the tourist information centre is located) http://wwwmimoaeu/users/pguilherme/guides/trondheim/ 8
