SUSTAINABILITY Butler Square is LEED-Silver O&M Certified Butler Square is the first century-old multi-tenant commercial building in the NATION to achieve the LEED O&M designation. Butler Square and McGough Facility Management are committed to delivering operating efficiencies that will fully support tenant business needs while reducing negative environmental impacts. This commitment includes activities associated with transportation, water and energy use, materials selections, purchasing, janitorial services, waste hauling and the quality of the workplace environment. In May 2009, Butler Square achieved LEED Certification for Existing Buildings Operations & Maintenance (LEED-EB O&M) and was re-certified to LEED Silver in 2015. This is significant because the LEED-EB O&M program represents a paradigm shift in the building industry and Butler Square is one of its first and oldest demonstration projects. The LEED-EB O&M rating system recognizes that sustainability doesn t end the moment a building is first occupied. Rather, it focuses on how well a building is operated, maintained, altered, and improved throughout its entire life. This recognition is awarded by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). The award made Butler Square the first century-old, multi-tenant commercial building IN THE NATION to achieve LEED EB O&M certification. Butler Square is the oldest building in the Midwest to achieve LEED certification; and the first building in Minnesota to be certified under the LEED EB O&M program.
