Housing Information from Current Students On Campus A more expensive, but much easier option is living in the graduate dorms. I believe you can still buy meal plans (though the dining halls are pretty far away and I wouldn't recommend it) and the graduate dorms are on State Street - just a short walk from Rawls. This is an easy option which provides furniture, but they do not allow drinking and certain University rules apply. I believe Hawkins and State Street Towers are two available options. Off Campus Walking Distance Single Jacquelyn Stevens, steve112@purdue.edu Chauncey Square 3-5 minute walk to Rawls Hall It costs $800/month and includes a garage parking spot, fitness facility, in unit washer/dryer and wireless Internet. I live with two roommates whom were paired with me by the apartment management. Though this choice may be too risky for some, it has worked out well for me. Cincinnati, Ohio I was specifically looking for a furnished apartment that is close to Rawls. While it is more expensive than some other apartments, the proximity to campus as well as the convenience of it being furnished makes it worth the extra cost. One of my favorite parts about my living situation is the gym in the basement. It helped keep me in shape during the long winter! One of the worst parts about this apartment is I could not move in until the weekend before classes started, so I had to find a temporary place to live during the two weeks of Krannert Launch. Overall, I have been happy with my choice. Next year, I will be living elsewhere since I graduate in December and Chauncey Square does not offer 6-month leases.

Stephanie Kruse, srkruse@purdue.edu River Market Apartments Less than a mile, 10 minute walk $878 (2 bed, 2 bath) Includes Internet/Cable/Parking, Electricity ($60-$120 depends on usage) Live by myself Chicago, IL When deciding where to live, safety and convenience are most important to me. The walk from Rawls (the main MBA building) is well lit and well-travelled. The building is quiet even on the weekends and the management staff goes out of their way to be friendly and helpful. The complex includes free parking, a small gym and free tanning. The bedrooms are pretty small and the closets are even smaller, but they offer individual leases by bedroom and roommate matching. The two bedroom apartments come furnished with two couches, two end tables, an entertainment center and a coffee table. River Market is a mixed use complex with multiple restaurants including Shaukin, an Indian place I visit weekly, and other services on the bottom level. Overall, it has been a great experience. I will live at River Market next year. Wabash Landing 3-4 minute drive, 10-15 minute walk $1,400 (mine includes parking, but some units do not), water and trash included/but this is a cost for the two bedroom apartment (one bedroom costs around $1300). Live by myself St. Louis, MO

I just wanted a nice place that was new, close to campus but still far enough. And not too much noise. At my building mostly grad students live on the first floor and undergrads on the other floors, noise is never an issue at my place, and its right across the Wabash River so it has a little bit of scenery. Like: how close but still far enough it is away from campus (walking is definitely doable), it's perfectly between campus bars and downtown bars so participating in the social scene is easy! Plenty of food options around if you're lazy. The maintenance staff is phenomenal! They will take care of things pretty much within 1-2 days of your request. Dislike: you may have a few lady bug problems in the spring (but I think it s because I live on the first floor)/but it s really not a big deal, I really love everything about my apartment, I will be resigning next year as well. William Hinson, whinson@purdue.edu The Purple House (rented house) 25min walking. (Approx 1 mile) Assuming 3 people in the house: Rent - $350. Utilities - Range between $75 to $170. (Last winter pushed the high numbers) Two roommates. Houston, TX Initially, it was a fortuitous combination of events, and me not wanting to put the effort into finding a place. Now: the bathroom turns out to be a very important feature. The house is 3-bedroom but one bathroom which can become an inconvenience when trying to get to class on time in the mornings. Likes: Quiet part of town. Bus stop is a 6 min walk from the house. If you close all the windows, you could play loud music and not hear anything outside (a couple of parties have proven that feature). Dislikes: The bathroom (aforementioned above). A section of the house (a living room) may have been an afterthought so in winter time that tends to be the coldest part of the house. You're also subject to the West Lafayette ordinance of shoveling your sidewalk.

Colleen Murphy, cmurphy@purdue.edu Basham Rentals, 765-743-8367, mybashamrentals.com Available Units as of 5/6/2014, within a short 1-2 mile walking distance Off Campus Driving Distance Single Kevin Clem, clemk@purdue.edu Pine Manor Apartments 5-10 minute drive. $625 per month for two bedroom, includes TV and internet, does not include electric. Live by myself. Riverside, CA

I wanted to live far enough away from campus so that I could get away when I needed to but also close enough that I could easily come and go from campus. Price was also a consideration and there are good deals to be found when you look a little bit further from campus. I really like the location as it is close to the grocery store, Walmart, pharmacies, and restaurants. I also like that it is off campus so it is quiet and a great place to relax. It is sometimes inconvenient to have to drive home because you feel that you are stuck on campus between meetings or classes, but it also forces you to stay and be productive during the day which works out well for me. I think the biggest decision is living really near to campus vs living at a driving distance. It all depends on personal preference so think about what is most important to you and then chose from there. Winters can be rough so walking can be a challenge, but having a car presents its own challenge if your complex has no garage (which mine does not) as you have to scrape your windshield and warm your car up every morning. N/A I live in the Stallard and Schuh building downtown Lafayette. 1 Mile. Walking takes approximately 15-20 minutes Downtown costs vary by location my Rent and Utilities are usually at about $1000 Live by myself in a one bedroom. Tennessee One of the only requirements I had was that my apartment had to have a Washer and Dryer! I love the downtown area. A mile over the bridge is just far enough to get away from campus, but close enough to enjoy everything that goes on. The downtown scene is a cool change from campus life as well. There are plenty of reasonable options around campus. I would suggest living within 2-3 miles from campus. I would say that any further and you may feel disjointed from the Purdue community.

Off Campus With Spouse/Partner Raudel Medina, rm@purdue.edu Property is Operated by Allied Properties http://www.alliedapartments.com/ Lindberg Village, Renting a Single Family Home 5 miles (15mins driving), limited Bus Route- car recommended Rent is $1,100 (pet friendly additional monthly$30) Live with fiancé and two small dogs Houston, TX Very important for us to be comfortable and have enough space for fiancé to work from home and for dogs to have playing space; this has not changed. Wish we had a fence and less carpet in the house. Driving in the winter and shoveling snow can be a pain, but it is worth it for the location and comfort. Besides that the neighborhood is very comfortable and safe. I had some issues with renting because I needed to find a good guarantor, I had to pay 5 months in advance to calm the landlord. He no longer requires this upfront payment for the resigning of my lease. Be sure to have a guarantor lined up incase landlord feels he needs it. It doesn t help when you let them know that you won t have income for the next two years. Preston Leavitt, prestonleavitt@purdue.edu My wife and I live in a house off campus up in Kimberly Estates off of Morehouse Road in West Lafayette. We are about 4.5 miles from campus which is about a 10 minute drive (with traffic), a 30 minutes bus ride (bus system is great!), or a 20 minute bike ride. With Wife. Utah

We put about 3 months of intense searching for the perfect housing for us. We had come from a small one bedroom apartment and wanted to find a place where we could have more space, a yard, and in a more family type neighborhood. The house isn t big (about 1000 sqft) but we have a fenced backyard, a garage, and lots of storage space. We really like having a house. It gives me something to do physically (taking care of the yard, fixing up the house, etc.) in contrast to the heavy mental work of the MBA. We were able to find the housing through networking through members of our church out here in this area. If I were to give any advice, I would recommend reaching out to people not in the housing industry and asking advice, especially if you have a religious network, etc. Also, if you are looking for something very specific, start looking now! There are PLENTY of housing options in the area, but the diamonds in the rough take some time to find. Jennifer Griffith, griffitj@purdue.edu Blackbird Farms 5 minute drive from Rawls, near the golf course Total Cost Per Month $850 rent + about $250 all utilities Live with partner and two pets (Dog and Cat) West Lafayette native The most important thing was a quite apartment that was near campus but far enough to be out of the party scene. The complex management is poor, but the location is nice. If you don t drive, don t rely on the Citi bus system, find a place that is walkable to campus instead. Off Campus With Kids Justin Waters, justinwilliamwaters@gmail.com

I live in a newer neighborhood called Lindberg Village. It is about 6 miles from campus heading northwest. It is a good location for a family. Close to Klondike elementary / middle schools and the Tippecanoe public library. There is a bus stop located within walking distance of approx. 10 min. The rent in our area for a 3 bedroom 2 bath home is around $1100. With wife and kids. Idaho My family moved to West Lafayette from Idaho and found that the city has all the amenities and businesses we like. It was important for us to find a quiet place that was clean, affordable and close to schools and medical care. We have really enjoyed the community of West Lafayette and wished we had more time to be involved in community activities. We Googled rental properties in West Lafayette as well as on craigslist to find our home. We actually looked at a lot of different places before we found the right one. One of the ways we looked for housing is by Googling the school system ratings in the area to find what areas the good schools were in. We ended up not in the highest rated school district but we have had great luck with our son s teachers and he has really flourished. I think that the adjustment process for the family started with getting a good home we could be comfortable in. It helped with getting involved in our son s school activities. We also belong to a Church that is here in town and that made a huge difference because we had an automatic network. We also leveraged the Krannert network to find other families with kids that we could make friends with and find out the ins and outs of transitioning. I would highly suggest this to anyone moving their family here. Off Campus International Hery Sofiagi, hsofiaji@purdue.edu I live in two-bedroom apartment in River Market Apartment. I think this apartment is the longest apartment building in West Lafayette.

I need only 7 minutes walking from apartment building to reach Rawls Hall, the place where MBA students get into their classes. While my apartment-mate need only to pay $429 but I ve got to pay $469 as I have a larger room space equipped with washstand, a small storage and a half of restroom. With roommate. Indonesia I got a brand new apartment room. And apparently the ownership of the apartment has been changed that the new owner was remodeling the interior of the apartment building. This new owner was really taking care of us, the residences. When we asked them to fix something broken, they responded and fix the problem quickly. They also keep the cleanliness of the surroundings, including the wide parking area. The parking lot is very wide that there is no residence complained about the parking lot. The apartment is also located in a very strategic position, exactly on the corner of the South River Road and East State Street. There are several restaurants on the ground floor of the building such as pizza, Indian food, Chinese food, Japanese food and ice cream. We can also find a McDonald or Wendy s Restaurant just across the street. I suggest that you already booked your apartment prior to your arrival to Purdue. I didn t do so that I need to stay for three days in somewhere else.!nd of course I need to spend some money for that temporary living. Yu Wen, wen47@purdue.edu Williamsburg on the Wabash 15 minute walk to Rawls, 5 minutes by car/bus Free parking, pet friendly community. Nothing is covered in rent so you will pay about $850 plus water, trash, electricity, internet and etc. for a 2 bedroom apartment. I live with my friend who is also a MSHRM student here.

China I cared most about the distance and the price. But now since I bought a car I will care more about the conditions of the apartment, so next semester I m moving to another apartment which is farther but has better furnished apartment and amenities. I like the location pretty much. It s close to Happy Hollow Park so you can always hang out with friends. And it is relatively close to campus and the price is reasonable. Leasing office closes very late during the weekdays and they can take great care of the parcels. Cons are that buses don t run at weekends and the apartment is totally unfurnished. Know what your priorities are. Say, If you don t plan to buy a car, I would recommend you live as close to campus as possible. And start research early since apartments close to Rawls are rented very quickly Ayush Goel, goel11@purdue.edu Morningside Apartment (PrimeCampusHousing) Walking distance (5 mins. Walk to Rawls) $900 for two bedroom apartment, parking is included. Living with roommate. India None, I just wanted to stay close to Rawls Hall. Laundry should be free. We have vended laundry machines, most of the apartment include this in rent. It gets very cold in winters, so choose a new house instead of old one, the heating elements in old houses are not good.
