Villa Monopoli View lies in a panoramic position along the road to the Castellana caves, about 5 km from the centre of Monopoli. The area is dotted with picturesque villas, centuries old olive groves and winding lanes bordered by the famous dry stone walls of Puglia. The trunks of the older olive trees tend to twist in an anticlockwise direction to form spectacular living sculptures and locals say that this is due to the Coriolis Effect as the earth turns on its axis. The limestone Caves of Castellana follow a sinuous path for about three km and reach a depth of more than 100m in places. The magical colours and forms created as water trickles downs over the centuries are spellbinding. The centre of the village of Alberobello is made up entirely of trulli, the dome-shaped dwellings traditional to Puglia and is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The trulli are built from dry stone, limestone blocks, often with a spire on top and are generally formed by a central, round room with smaller round rooms leading off. The fabled white city (Città Bianca) of Ostuni is a must on anyone's destination list. It rises high on a plateau overlooking the sea and you can spend hours getting lost in the pretty lanes only to find yourself back at the cathedral at the top. The nearby coastline boasts pristine, sandy beaches and turquoise waters. Polignano al Mare is a coastal gem perched high on the cliffs overlooking the sea. It was originally a Greek settlement and features alluring, medieval lanes meandering through white washed houses. The restaurants are exceptional and many have outdoor seating areas for enjoying the fresh, local produce whilst listening to the waves below. Monopoli is about 60 km from Bari international airport and 70 km from Brindisi international airport. Castellana Grotte is 8 km away, Alberobello 12 km, Ostuni 40 km and Polignano 8 km. Villa Monopoli View is an ideal base for visitors searching for beautiful beaches and traditional lifestyles accompanied by excellent food and wine. The Property. The grounds of Villa Monopoli View extend over a hectare of large, well-tended terraced gardens with a total of about 90 olive trees, 50 fruit trees including orange trees, pine trees, a small organic vegetable garden and a gorgeous lawn encircling the swimming pool, the sunbathing area and a part of the house. The pool, 15 x 5 m2, is set into one of the terraced gardens and the sunbathing area is equipped with high quality chairs and sun-beds. There is a large gazebo on the terrace above the pool with a long, summer dining table shaded by a wonderful trailing wisteria. The rooftop garden on the annex is of particular interest but remains out of bounds to small children. The villa was originally built in 1930 and was completely renovated a couple of years ago so all of the rooms and bathrooms are freshly decorated. An annex next to the villa was completed in 2013 and can comfortably house 4 more guests. One of the principal characteristics of the property is the two different styles of the buildings; the main house is very classical and has the red walls that were typical in Puglia at the end of the last century. The annex is very minimalist and modern with large windows and wooden panels around the whole building. The original villa covers about 250 sq. m. and is all set on one level. The villa has been added to over the years and the irregularity of the floor plan only adds to its charm. The front door opens onto a spacious sitting room and dining area. The large kitchen is fully fitted with all modern conveniences but the timeless, original cooker and wood oven remain. There are four large double bedrooms, two of which have en suite bathrooms. A third bathroom is available for the other two bedrooms. The guest house annex has a large patio area with an elegant, wooden, dining table in front of the entrance. The patio area opens onto a sitting room and cozy kitchen. There are two double bedrooms, one larger and one smaller but each with its own bathroom. The modern annex was built according to all the laws of minimal environmental impact and has air conditioning in both bedrooms. PHOTOS
