Energy Efficiency Wilcox Communities meets all requirements for current energy codes by incorporating the following into every home: Insulation is enclosed on six sides. Batt insulation is enclosed on all six sides (top, bottom, front. back, right, left) to allow the insulation to operate at maximum efficiency. Exterior penetration are sealed. Any and all penetrations in the exterior sheeting, such as piping, wiring and the electric box, are foamed or caulked to reduce air infiltration. Bottom plates at slab or deck are sealed. Foam or caulk is applied between the slab/deck and the bottom plates on all exterior walls to eliminate air infiltration. Interior penetrations are sealed. Before and after drywall, all interior penetrations, such as piping, ductwork and wiring, are foamed or caulked. Energy efficient windows are installed. Argon gas is injected into the air space between the double pane glass in order to reduce convection. Low e-glazing film is applied to the exterior of the inner pane of glass to reflect sun rays and reduce heat infiltration. HVAC ducts are air-sealed. All joints in the ductwork are sealed with a mastic and tape to reduce the amount of heated or cooled air that can escape into unconditioned space. Duct leakage testing is performed. Energy testing is performed on HVAC system to measure the amount of conditioned air that escapes into unconditioned space and to ensure that we are meeting or exceeding the state-mandated specifications. Blower door testing is performed. Energy testing is performed on all doors to measure the amount of air infiltration into conditioned space and to ensure that we are meeting or exceeding the state-mandated specifications.
