Luis Barragán is a great Mexican Modernist, winner of the 1980 Pritzker Prize. Like many architects of his era, he designed items exclusively suited to his modern interiors. His subtlety, geometric rigour and respect for materials enabled him to create uncluttered volumes with a dialogue between light and colour. His house and studio were listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2004. The creations of this artist are rare on the art market. 3

An Important Array of Works by Carl Auböck (1900-1957) Father of Austrian Modernism Designer Carl Auböck, sometimes known as the Father of Austrian Modernism, learnt to work with metal as a teenager in his father s celebrated workshop, Werkstätte Carl Auböck. In 1919, after studying drawing and painting at Vienna s Academy of Fine Arts, he enrolled in the class of Swiss artist/designer Johannes Itten at the Bauhaus in Weimar, then took over the family workshop in 1923. Auböck innovated by producing a series of small, intriguing pieces of modern Design, far removed from the prevailing Art Deco style. After his father s death he continued to produce functional, abstract objects like corkscrews, paperweights and ashtrays, often from brass which he polished to give his creations the presence and character they deserved. His work spurned the superfluous thanks to his ingenuity, savoir-faire and sense of the essential.
