ALDERLEY EDGE Alderley Edge takes its name from the railway and the sandstone escarpment known as 'The Edge'. The expansion of railway network in the area was used to attract wealthy business people from Manchester, then in the early 1800's local landowner Sir Humphrey De Trafford of Chorley Hall laid out an extensive new estate of roads and houses, by 1910 most of the area was developed and now boasts several grade II listed buildings, including Chorley Hall.
