The historical heart of Barcelona s Ciutat Vella ( Old City ) is still pumping. The winding medieval streets of one of its most dynamic districts, La Ribera, buzz with activity as new businesses and new residents add fresh colors to the mosaic of modern life. APiece of History Around the cafés, boutiques and restaurants, the ancient past of the area can still be seen. La Ribera is Catalan for The Shore, because it marked the seaward limit of the city in the 13th-15th centuries.
