About The Institution of Engineers (India) The Institution of Engineers (India) or IEI is the largest multidisciplinary professional body that encompasses 15 engineering disciplines and gives engineers a global platform from which to share professional interest. IEI has membership strength of more than 0.8 million. Established in 1920, with its headquarters at 8 Gokhale Road, Kolkata - 700020, IEI has served the engineering fraternity for over nine decades. In this period of time it has been inextricably linked with the history of modern-day engineering. In 1935, IEI was incorporated by Royal Charter and remains the only professional body in India to be accorded this honour. Today, its quest for professional excellence has given it a place of pride in almost every prestigious and relevant organization across the globe. IEI functions among professional engineers, academicians and research workers. It provides a vast array of technical, professional and supporting services to the Government, Industries, Academia and the Engineering fraternity, operating from 120 Centres located across the country. The Institution has established R&D Centres at various locations in the country and also provides grant-in-aid to its members to conduct research and development on engineering subjects. IEI conducts Section A& B Examinations in different Engineering disciplines, the successful completion of which is recognized as equivalent to Degree in appropriate field of Engineering of recognized Universities of India by the Ministry of Human Resources Development, Govt. of India. Every year as many as 90000 candidates appear for these exams. For details, please see: www.ieindia.org The Institution of Engineers (India), Telangana State Centre The Telangana State Centre of the Institution of Engineers (India) has on its rolls more than 7946 Corporate Members covering fifteen disciplines of Engineering besides non-corporate Members to the order of 19791. The Telangana State Centre has been one of the most active Centres of the Institution of Engineers (India) which is engaged in successfully translating the objectives and ideals of IEI into practice. The present Telangana state Centre is legacy of erstwhile Hyderabad State Centre of Nizam s Hyderabad State. About Hyderabad The ancient city of Hyderabad, once the Nizam s capital is now the capital of Andhra Pradesh. It is the fifth largest city in India, sprawled and flourished on the banks of river Musi. It is actually a twin city. Hyderabad 2

and Secunderabad cities have now fused into one. The new entity is a giant metropolis where North meets South and Consent meets Cosmopolitanism. The city is about 400 years young and is still growing fast. With the development of Hitec City at Madhapur, it has become the IT capital of India. The development of IT and IT-related activities has given a big boost to the all-round development of the city. It has now become a city where tradition fuses with modernity and heritage structures vie with modern high rise buildings to add to the beauty of the city. The city that thrives with a variety of cultures, has tried to create a distinct identity of its own. The twin cities have many landmarks, which have become places of attraction for tourists. These include Charminar, Golconda Fort, QutbShahi Tombs, Salarjung Museum, Lumbini and NTR Parks, Nehru Zoological Park, Birla Mandir and Planetarium, Ramoji Film City, Snow Park - to mention a few. Theme of the Convention: The intricacy of a building design needs to create a healthy indoor environment with the application of traditional and new advanced building materials which are free of detrimental substances and allow design of energy-efficient building envelopes. The aim of the 33 rd National Convention and National Seminar on ARCHITECTURAL ENGINEERING ASPECT FOR SUSTAINABLE BUILDING ENVELOPES ArchEn-BuildEn 2017 is to bring together various existing, emerging research and training activities dealing with materials, building envelope systems, their design and the forecast of healthy, comfortable, energy and economically effective indoor environment, sustainable construction, etc. The aim of the national seminar is also to contribute to multidisciplinary and integrated design of buildings in which are involved architects, engineers, scientists, building industry, manufactures, etc. Contributions, which help to create the framework for better implementation of ecological principles into existing technical specifications, legislation and building practice, are also highly valued. We cordially invite professionals from Architectural Engineering and also from the areas of material and products manufacturers, building physics, HVAC, EIA, design professionals, building managers, developers, investors and the representatives of the center, state and local administrations, code bodies, academics and researches. A crucial feature of present strategy e.g.ecbc is energy efficiency, for without a drastic improvement in efficiency, we will not achieve energy reform. A definite deciding factor is the area of buildings. The Seminar underscores the essential of building envelopes for total energy consumption in buildings, with the aim of putting scientific know-how 3

into practice. The dialogue between science and practice should also promote the technology transfer and an inter-disciplinary procedure for building construction, which is vital for the realization of our energy strategy. Surely this seminar will contribute to a multidisciplinary, integrated planning approach by architects, engineers, scientists, manufacturers and the building industry to achieve sustainable building envelopes.
