Emerging Trends Provides Sector Outlooks for 2017 From C21 On-Line Every year, PricewaterhouseCoopers and the Urban Land Institute release Emerging Trends in Real Estate, one of the industry s most anticipated forecasts. The 2017 edition lists real estate trends and provides forecasts for the various sectors of commercial real estate. Here are some highlights: Industrial. The industrial sector has been a favorite of investors due to its strong performance. The sector is being propelled by strong demand (warehouses, in particular, due to the popularity of e-commerce), limited new construction and a perception that industrial properties have lower risk. Apartments. The multifamily sector has had a good run of success, driven by demand from renters by choice as well as those who can t afford to buy. But in some parts of the country, yields are down due to rent pressure from competition and high prices on investment properties. Office. According to Emerging Trends, the outlook for office properties is less rosy than for other sectors. Foreign investment has been leading the charge for prime central business district properties, and that s not forecast to decline. But rising prices are leading some investors to look at smaller markets for better returns. Retail. Emerging Trends indicates that many industry professionals have concerns about retail.
