Professional architects, practicing civil engineers, corporate project managers, as well as bright young students, from each and every district of West Bengal, will participate to showcase their creation and battle for the winning crown. The principle objective of Konstrukt is to Recognize and honour excellence & innovation in the field of Architecture & Design Provide a platform to design and construction professionals, as well as aspiring students, to showcase their recent portfolio works to fellow professionals and experts Identify, celebrate and reward excellent achievements that will serve as icons of West Bengal Encourage public awareness, keen interest and sense of identity for Architecture & Engineering among common people

ACHIEVEMENT Konstrukt is the 1st initiative ever in Eastern India to acknowledge and honour excellence, innovation and achievements in the field of architecture and design. Students and professionals would now be able to showcase their projects to a host of eminent industry personas and attain great opportunities and future prospects. It would be an honour itself for all, to be a part of the architectural grandeur, which also comprises motivational workshops and seminars. RECOGNITION The principle objective of this grand initiative is to create a melting pot of innovative ideas to be showcased and earn respect, recognition among some of the most highly esteemed personalities in the domain of design and architecture. Introduction of the participants and inclusion of their works in the good-book of the industry stalwarts will definitely add a feather to their caps. STALWARTS ACROSS THE ARCHITECTURAL FIELD A host of architectural and design stalwarts, who have pioneered modern architecture, will grace the judges panel of KONSTRUKT. Their in-depth knowledge, life-long experience and visionary outlook will not only heighten the standard of the event but inspire all participants to look forward and work towards a greater future. Judges Panel will also have segmentation in accordance with the event procedure. OUR MENTORS Prof. B.K. Sengupta IIT, Kharagpur Prof. Sengupta has been teaching in Department of Architecture and Regional Planning since 1975 during which he has held the position of the Head of the Department twice. With a Bachelor s Degree in Architecture from Calcutta University and Master s Degree from IIT Kharagpur, he went on to do his post-graduate course work in Metropolitan Planning from John Hopkins University in Baltimore, USA. He has been involved in various Institute and State level committees and has been selected as Jury Member in numerous prestigious Architectural and Planning projects. His research and professional work has been published in many journals. Prof. Sengupta has vast experience in architecture and city planning having worked with Government of Punjab, Aizawl, Cuttack, internationally in South Sudan. He also has worked with various Government Authorities of West Bengal like Siliguri Jalpaiguri, Burdwan, Asansol Durgapur etc MARQUEE JUDGES Ar. Dulal Mukherjee Decorated with the prestigious Baburao Mhatre Gold Medal from IIA for his lifetime contribution to Architecture in 2010, Dulal Mukherjee have been the recipient of numerous National awards - "Dharmasthala Manjunatheswara" for his outstanding contribution to semi-rural architecture as seen in Kala Bhavan Graphic Studio, Visva Bharati University, "JIIA Project award 1990" from the Indian Institute of Architects for the Don Bosco Church at Kalyani, the Economic Times Acetech Award and The CNBC Award for lifetime achievement to name a few. Nominated as a member of All India Council for Technical Education(AICTE), he has been on the panel of judges for various national level architectural awards like the J.K. Awards, the JIIA Awards, the A+D and Spectrum Architectural awards and the National Association for Students of Architecture(NASA) on several occasions. He is a regular jury member of the Design competition of International and Domestic terminals for the Airports Authority of India and Architecture Award Competition for Professionals of Structural Design and Construction for INSDAG. Dr. Joydeep Dutta is an Architect-Planner with 25 years of rich experience in architectural practice, as well as teaching & research. He holds a PhD (IIT Kharagpur) in the field of Location Theory & Retail Planning, Master of Urban Planning (University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, USA), and a Bachelor of Architecture (IIT Kharagpur). Joydeep has hands-on experience in Corporate Leadership for Design Management and Project Consulting (Taj Group of Hotels; Reliance Retail; Dr. Joydeep Dutta Magus Consulting). His design portfolio is versatile including Architecture, Interiors, Urban Design & Urban Planning. His experience ranges from Graphic Design to Urban Planning, Institutional to Educational, Hospitality to Commercial and Residential to Industrial with direct international & national experience with leading consulting professionals of the world. He is currently Professor, Pillai HOC College of Architecture, Navi Mumbai and has earlier served as faculty in IIT Kharagpur & Sir J.J. College of Architecture. He teaches Architectural Design, Visual Design, Theory, Research Techniques, Humanities, Art Appreciation, Construction Project Management and Urban Planning. Ar. Prabir Mitra A leading Architect of Kolkata Ar. Prabir Mitra has been one of the leading architects of Kolkata and West Bengal for more than four decades. He received the JK Cements Architect of the Year Award in 1998 for his landmark creation the Fort Radisson at Raichak. Prabir Mitra trained in architecture in England and Germany in 1960 s. He became a member of The Royal Institute of British Architects and worked in Hamburg, Germany as a group leader in a renowned architectural firm. They were acclaimed and awarded for the famous Hamburg Port & Dockyard Revitalization project. In 1967 he was awarded for the National Art Gallery, Munich design competition, in which top ten architects of the world were invited. Ar. Mitra returned to India and started his independent practice. His famous early works in Kolkata include Saptaparni Apartments, Chloride Corporate Office Building, VSNL Corporate Building, Food Court at Swabhumi Heritage Plaza, IIMT Bengal (Hospitality Management Institute) and IIT Kharagpur Academic Complex. With more than forty-five years of experience in providing consulting engineering services in the fields of metallurgy and other heavy industrial projects of India and abroad, Abhijit Dasgupta is a renowned name in the field of Engineering. During his educational life, he received four gold medals from Jadavpur University for securing highest marks amongst students in all disciplines of engineering and also, secured highest C.P.I. in M.Tech at IIT, Kanpur amongst all students in the Abhijit Dasgupta discipline. He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (USA) and the Co-Chairman of Consulting Engineers Association of India (Eastern & North Eastern Region). He has previously acted as Chairman of the West Bengal State Centre of Civil Engineering Division Committee of the Institution of Engineers (India). Among the biggest achievements of his life lies the Lifetime achievement award from The Institution of Engineers (India). He has also won awards of achievement from ASCE-IS, PMI-China, NIT-Rourkela and CEAI (E&NER). JP Agarwal HONOURABLE JURIES Dr. Sanghamitra Basu (IIT Kharagpur) Conservation expert Partha Ranjan Das JP Agarwal is one of the most celebrated architects of West Bengal. The body of work which he has created are specifically committed towards building environment & user friendly architecture. His works include I.T.Parks, Mall & Multiplex projects, Leisure projects, in specific, apart from large scale Housing & Commercial Projects. Under the guidance and headship of this celebrated architect, the professional architectural firm, Agarwal and Agarwal got established in 1986, which grew to become well established and a reputed firm of eastern India. Gradually under his leadership the firm got opportunities to work all across the country. At present 90 personals, which include talented & youthful architects and engineers, are working under the mastery and guidance of Mr. J.P. Agarwal. Till date under the guidance of JP Agarwal the firm has completed more than 400 projects, while creating more than a total of 5 million sqft of green space. Dr. Sanghamitra Basu is currently the Associate Professor of Architecture & Regional Planning in IIT Kharagpur. She is the associate member of Institute of Town Planners and Indian Institute of Architects; while a regular member of Council of Architecture and Council of Monuments, India. She has been doing her research works in the vivid areas of Urban Conservation & Heritage Management, Cultural Heritage Planning & Management, Quality of Life and Social Cohesion in various types of built environment, Post Modernism & Contemporary Architecture, Architectural Design and Pedagogy, Traditional Architecutral and applicaiton of Shape Grammer, GIS in Urban Planning. Dr. Basu s recent projects are :- Preparation of Revised LUDCP of SSDA Planning Area, Preparation of Zonal Development Plans for 14 Planning Zones of Bhubaneswar Development Plan Area ( PZDP), Primary Survey and Analysis of State of Built Heritage ( Medinipur & Bankura ), Improving Quality of Life of Senior Citizens in Residential Neighbourhood in an Indian Context. Arunendu Banerjee is a practicing and consulting Engineer and Environmental Designer specialized in Ecologic Architecture, Built Environment and Heritage conservation work. He worked with the tribal society in the Santhal villages within Visva-Bharati, for local level participatory environmental reconstruction, creativity and development work, also supported by Department of Environment, Govt. of West Bengal; West Bengal Pollution Control Board. Mr. Arunendu Banerjee Banerjee has been involved in creating large space frame structure for Salt lake stadium in Kolkata, JN Indoor stadium in Orissa, Sonar Taree Housing Complex, Santiniketan for Bengal Peerless Housing Development Ltd., Second Campus design, development, planning work for Asutosh College, etc. He is also an Associate Engineering Advisor Consultant to Rabindra Bharati University, IIT, Visva-Bharati, Indian Oil Corporation, BPCL, Indian Museum, West Bengal Heritage Commission, West Bengal Tourism Development Corporation Ltd., Department of Environment in Govt. of West Bengal and many other reputed organisations. Ashish BASU, B.Arch 1979, spent a year working in Calcutta (now Kolkata) and a year in New Delhi after graduation, before gaining admission to the University of Michigan, USA, to pursue a master s degree in urban planning. While at the university he met Mr. Charles Correa, who persuaded him to return to India and start an architectural practice. Mr. Basu subsequently spent 20 years in private practice in Kolkata following that life changing conversation. Ar. Ashish Basu While in practice he was involved in the design and construction of a variety of building types, from residential and commercial to industrial architecture and cost-effective architecture as espoused by Mr. Laurie Baker. He quit private practice and joined a group of like-minded architects when the scale of projects became very large with the advent of the new millennium. Since then he has been working closely with the local developers involved with the real estate industry in Kolkata. Partha Ranjan Das has been an active architect professional for more than 25 years. He is an active member of the Academic Council of SPA, New Delhi and Wet Bengal Heritage Commission. He is also a principal consultant to West Bengal Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. and an advisor in NIASA. Partha Ranjan Das has received a numerous awards in the prolonged architectural career of his. Some of the mentionable awards are Special prize in Housing Design Competition by HUDCO in 1987; Prizes in all categories of Housing Design Competition by Jaipur Dev. Authority, 1989; IIA Dharmasthala award, 1994; Certificate of merit, from J.K. Cement s Architect of the Year Award, 1994; Honorable Mention, Redevelopment of Crawford Market, design competition, Bombay, 1995; Honorable Mention, International Housing Design Competition in Shanghai in 1996; J.K. Cement s State Architect of the year award (W B & N E States), 2001, 2014; Archi Design award, 2009, for Resort at Kaziranga, Assam.

After being graduated from IIT, Kharagpur in 1988 Ashish Acharjee worked with Architect Charles Correa in Mumbai as a trainee and later as Project Architect in Bangalore on several land-marking projects like the Jawahar Kala Kendra in Jaipur, Cavelossim Beach Resort at Goa, 'Rehabilitation Township' at Bagalkot in Karnataka and MRF Corporate Headquarters at Madras. In 1990, joined a subsidiary of Gujarat Ambuja Cements Limited and assumed a key role Ar. Ashish Acharjee in designing a large Real Estate and Tourism project near Kolkata. He primarily works on projects of Hotels, Residential complexes, Museums and Institutional Buildings. He is also a consultant to the Heritage Commission and Directorate of Archaeology and Museums, West Bengal; while currently involved in restoring/ retrofitting many heritage structures that includes the Historic Fort at Buxa, West Bengal. He has also worked as a correspondent of a leading design magazine, Indian Architect and Builder. Dr. Keya Mitra (BESU Sibpur) Keya Mitra is serving as Professor in the Department of Architecture at Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology in Shibpur, India. She has a Bachelor s degree in Architecture from Erstwhile B.E. College Shibpur under the University of Calcutta and a Master s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, USA. She obtained her PhD from Bengal Engineering and Science University, Shibpur and did her post-doctoral research at the Sapienza University in Rome. Prof. Mitra has actively furthered the seismic safety agenda in India through the activities of National Information Centre of Earthquake Engineering (NICEE), where she is currently serving as a member of the National Advisory Committee. Her research has been presented to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), as well as at several other national and international conferences. Prof. Mitra has also been honoured by the Natural Hazards Center at the University of Colorado-Boulder with the Mary Fran Myers Scholarship. Dr. Suchandra Bardhan (HOD, Jadavpur University) Landscape expert Dr. Suchandra Bardhan, an architect with Masters in Landscape Architecture & PhD in Engineering, is currently serving as the Head of the Department of Architecture at Jadavpur University, Kolkata. With about fourteen years of research experience, her research papers have been published in many national and international journals and academic volumes. She has been the joint recipient of the Best Paper Award at the 24th European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference and Exhibition held in Germany in 2009. She has worked on a wide range of Architectural and Landscape design projects covering diverse typologies & scales, including the landscape development of Hooghly river front area at Prinsep Ghat & Armenian Ghat areas as well as some major urban park & city beautification projects. She has been one of the core members of Jadavpur University s Special Multi-disciplinary Applied Research Team (SMART) for preparation of the Comprehensive Rejuvenation Plan of Kolkata s Rabindra Sarobar. Dr. Sudhir K. Barai (IIT Kharagpur) Structural expert Sudhirkumar Barai is a Professor of Structural Engineering Specialization in the Department of Civil Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur 721 302, India. His research interests are Computational Intelligence Applications, Structural Health Monitoring and Concrete Technology. In 1995, he obtained Ph.D (Eng.) from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India. He received the degrees of B.E.(Civil) and M.E.(Civil) with specialization in Structural Engineering in 1987 and 1989, respectively, from the Faculty of Engineering, M S University of Baroda, Baroda, India. He was Erskine Visiting Fellow at University of Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand during May-June 2008. He was also visiting scientist at National University of Singapore during May-July 2003. He was recipient of BOYSCAST fellowship and visited Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, USA during May-November, 2000. He was a post-doctoral fellow at Department of Solid Mechanics, Materials and Structures, Tel Aviv University, Tel Aviv, Israel during February, 1997-July, 1998. He has published more than 175+ papers in leading National/International Journals and Conferences in his research fields. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 The project should be situated within West Bengal, however the Architect/Engineer may have his/her practice outside the state. The project should be completed within the last 3 years (between Jan 2013 and till date). A completed component of the project may be submitted as an entry, provided it is currently operational. Renovations and repair works of existing buildings are not eligible. But stand-alone additions & annexes to the existing building may be submitted as an entry. The Principal Architect/Engineer should have a valid registration number with Council of Architecture or Institution of Engineers. The Principal or Faculty Adviser, or such competent authority must ratify that the submitted project is a bona fide work of the student. Entries on behalf of a deceased Architect/Engineer may be submitted by his/her firm or legal heirs /successors. A participant firm can submit up to 5 entries in all, and up to 3 entries in the same sub-category. For each project, a separate entry form needs to be filled. The primary language of communication in the project entries will be English. Architectural students can submit their 4th/5th year project works. Civil Engineering students can submit their research papers/projects. Application forms can be downloaded online from the website. Alternately, application forms can be obtained via email by sending request at: entry@konstrukt.co.in Entries should be either uploaded on website or sent by email. Entries may also be sent via registered post or by a reputed courier to the following address: 55B Mirza Ghalib Street, Near Park Street, Saberwal House, 8th Floor, Kolkata - 700016, West Bengal Jury may change the Category of entry as deemed fit. Preliminary selection will be done by Jury to arrive at a shortlist of selected entries - between 3 to 5 per category. Entries found non-conforming to local/state/national rules or bylaws are liable for disqualification. Shortlisted participants will be intimated of the Jury s decision & invited to make a first-hand presentation on the Final Competition Ceremony. All eligibility criteria must be fulfilled. Non-compliance may lead to disqualification.

The day will start off early with a constructive workshop with the selected participants and the eminent designers and architects who are well known in the industry. The main event will include cultural programme, followed by the final announcement of the winners. This will be followed by the award ceremony; the monetary reward along with other associate gifts will be handed over to the winners through eminent guests present at the event finale.
