There are a variety of housing options available within the Kitchener-Waterloo area for students. 2. UpTown Waterloo is a perfect destination for students - shops, accommodations, and entertainment directed towards the students lifestyle. Leases and landlords Moving off campus is the start of a new relationship with a landlord and the responsibility of a lease. Before you sign and commit yourself to a lease, there s a few things we recommend you do:» Talk to the present tenants, without the landlord there, to see how quickly the landlord responds to their requests.» Ask to see a hydro bill especially for the winter months and ask how many showers they can have before they run out of hot water.» Have all roommates listed on the lease, so everyone is responsible.» Most importantly, have a FREE lease review by our Off-Campus Housing Office before you sign. Remember after the initial lease period, your rental agreement automatically goes month-to-month you do NOT need to sign another lease. Subletting If you sign a 12-month lease, but find you re not going to live there for the whole year, you might want to consider subletting. List your sublet for free on the Off-Campus Housing Student Classified Ads, upload your pictures, connect with other students and find your subletter, all online. Once you find your subletter, get their permanent address and sign a Sublet Agreement with them, available through uwaterloo.ca/off-campus-housing. Your landlord and roommate(s) can t refuse you having a subletter, but they do have the right to approve the person you have chosen to sublet your place. Be open about the process and introduce them all to each other. Remember you are still responsible to your landlord and your subletter is responsible to you. uwaterloo.ca/housing uwaterloo.ca/off-campus-housing 9 off-campus Services 1 2 Off-Campus Issues If you have any issues or problems while living off campus, we re here to help.
