Guest Speaker: Rtn. Keith Miller. Rtn. Keith Miller presented a fascinating account of his immediate family s proud military history with four generations of commitment to the Australian Airforce and Army (refer to the above family tree). On his mother s side of the family, Grandfather Bill Puller served in the 1 st AIF in WW1. Bill had a daughter, Olive, Keith s mother and a son Leslie who also served in the army. Olive 3 sons (including Keith) and 2 daughters. Keith had a distinguished 36-year career in the RAAF with his first posting to Darwin. He then moved with postings between Melbourne and Sale with a total of 23 years at East Sale rising to the position of OC Admin. Keith, who started training for a teaching career, soon found this wasn t for him (some of those kids just won t follow orders!), but his brother Graeme is about to retire after a 50-year career with the education department. Brother Peter also served in the army. Of Keith and Gwen s three sons, one (Scott) serves the RAAF and is currently in Waco, Texas overseeing the introduction of the RAAF s new aircraft, the Spartan. Gavin has served in the army and RAAF. Both topped their RAAF induction courses. Keith s brother Peter s son, Drew, also topped his RAAF induction course. Teacher brother Graeme s son Brendon, is also in the army. On Keith s fathers side, Grandfather Thomas Miller served in the Royal Orkney Artillery and Keith s dad, James was an army man as were two of Spartan Aircraft his brothers, Allan and Gordon with third brother Harry serving in the RAAF. Allan s son Ian was the 1968 Stawell Gift Winner and Gordon s son Neil was also in the army. Keith s family can be very proud of their tradition of distinguished military service to our country, and Keith continues his 26-year commitment to community service through the Rotary Club of Sale.
