Notes for Emily May Laubach: Per information from Jayne Robbins-Zilker "She was a good grandmother who took care of Jayne when her parents were away, including the winter months while they were in Florida. She treated Jayne like a girl-friend and Jayne loved her very much. Jayne looked forward to coming "home" to grammy's homecooked meals. Up to the time of her death, she did all her own housework, climbing ladders to clean her windows or replace sashcords. At one time she even made her own soap. She never drove, but walked to the farmer's market at 12th and Spring Garden Streets. She was a dear, kind, friendly lady. She wore pinch-nose glasses all of her adult life. She liked making sponge cakes for her son, Melvin. During the 1930's, she took an extensive trip via train and motor car. She went West seeing such sights as pikes Peak, Grand Canyon, Alaska, California, etc. She talked of the trip for many years." Eldridge E. Robbins son of William H. Robbins and Marietta Unknown was born in 1870 in Philadelphia, PA. He died in 1928 in Easton, PA. Notes for Eldridge E. Robbins: It is thought that Eldridge was raised on a canal boat in Philadelphia and that his parents may have come from Ireland (possibly Irish/Welsh descent). He was a sickly baby. Doctors told his parents that he needed to be "on the water" so they bought a boat and constantly took him riding on the water. As an adult, he married and then went to Vermont to learn to be a stone cutter. He apparently learned his skill while working on the memorial that is in the circle in Easton, PA. He returned to Easton and started the monument business "E. Robbins and son" in 1910. The business location was 203 North 7th street, Easton, PA, near the Easton Cemetery. Eldridge died from "tombstone consumption" (silicosis - dust from cutting and working with granite and other stone) in 1928. He is buried in Easton cemetery, Easton, PA. 1900 Census of Easton Ward 5, Northampton, Pennsylvania, shows he and wife(emily) with son, Melvin. Shows father was born in New Jersey, and mother in Pennsylvania. Lists his occupation as a gravestone cutter. Page 3 of 5
