It appears to be one of the earliest houses constructed in the area, which is a post-war tract. 806 W 165TH PL First Methodist Church Year built: 1950 Architectural style: Spanish Colonial Revival Context: Public and Private Institutional Development, 1850-1980 Religion and Spirituality, 1850-1980 Theme: Religious Property Types, 1850-1980 Sub theme: No SubTheme Institutional - Religion/Spirituality Religious Building 3CS;5S3 This is one of the few extant churches remaining in the area. The church was founded in 1892, and its first building was constructed here in 1894. The existing building was constructed in 1950, and is eligible for its association with one of the oldest congregations in the community. The Yamada Company building is significant as the location of one of the oldest remaining Japanese American businesses in the Gardena area. This is likely one of the oldest examples of this property type remaining in the city that retains integrity. 848 W GARDENA BLVD Year built: 1923 Architectural style: Commercial, Vernacular; Italianate Theme: Late 19th and Early 20th Century Architecture, 1865-1950 Sub theme: Early 20th Century Commercial Vernacular, 1900-1950 Commercial One-part Commercial Block A remarkably intact commercial brick vernacular building from the early 20th century.
