01 City of Konjic History of the City Welcome to Konjic a town with a history dating back some 4000 years - where 2000- year old archaeological sites have provided a fascinating glimpse into the lives of Illyrian tribes, who travelled upstream along the Neretva river. Though its story may be ancient, this township has experienced a definitive revival, with its medieval Ottoman-inspired bridge being restored to its former glory in recent years. Nature Konjic is a town of lush forests, sky-scraping mountains and winding rivers that run to no less than 230 kilometers. Fondly termed The City of Lakes, this region provides a beautiful lake backdrop, as well as one of the finest climates in Europe. Jablaničko Lake is the longest lake in Bosnia, this feat of human engineering spans some 24 kilometers, and transforms into a bustling haven for water sports during the summer season. Jablaničko Lake also welcomes fishermen who cast off in their droves during the warmer months, each of whom aim to catch one of the 13 types of fish found in the lake s diverse ecosystem. Bosnia has been allocating a big portion of its budget to improve its tourism infrastructure. In 2017, an increase of 13.7% in tourists movement into Bosniahas been recorded, which proves the effort into the Tourism industry. The strategic location of Čelebići region has given the area huge credibility, being located between the two largest cities, Sarajevo and Mostar. As well as the largest lake available in the area, JablaniČko Lake. The city council planned and zoned a large land across the lake to develop different special projects, aiming to urbanize the area and to name the city as the capital of tourism in Bosnia. An area has been zoned to develop parks with jogging pathways along with scattered ponds across the lake. Another area has been planned to accommodate a luxury resort for tourists' stay, that is either has a view over the lake or across the lake. Another large areas have been designed for multi-use buildings, such as shopping centers, and railway station connecting to Sarajevo, Mostar, and through to European cities.
