The rutes cmprising the Natinal System f Interstate and Defense Highways will be marked with its wn distinctive rute marker shield and will have a numbering system that is separate and apart frm the U.S. Numbered Highway System. Fr the cnvenience f the mtrist, there must be cntinuity and a unifrm pattern f marking and numbering these Interstate rutes withut regard t state lines. The U.S. Numbered System was established in 1926 and the Interstate Numbered System was established in 1956. Bth have reached the perid f review, revisin, and cnslidatin. They nw need perfecting rather than expansin.
