Letter from the Director HOME wins settlement 2015 Financial Audit

Lunch and Learn HOME hosted a free Lunch and Learn for housing providers. Dotty Hall, Senior Housing Counselor, coordinated the event and used the opportunity to tell attendees about HOME s Mobility Program and the benefits it offers landlords. HOME staff also presented information about hoarding disorders and recent guidance released by HUD regarding renting to people with criminal records. LaTonya Springs, Client Services Specialist, talked about how to help tenants with hoarding disorders. One of LaTonya s former clients shared her story of how her housing was affected by hoarding. The client called HOME after being served a notice to leave. The landlord agreed to give LaTonya and her client 90 days to de-clutter and clean the apartment unit. It only took about 30 days for LaTonya to bring the unit up to code. In the end, the client and landlord agreed to a mutual termination. The client was happy to leave the lease without penalty and was able to find housing elsewhere. *203 HOME cases were referred to Housing Mediation Services *578 improved landlord-tenant and tenant-tenant relations LaTonya Springs speaks to Lunch and Learn attendees 2015 FINANCIAL AUDIT Income Government Grants $743,300.00 $730,834.00 United Way $84,428.00 $85,939.00 Other Grants $27,500.00 $25,000.00 Programming & Special Events $59,634.00 $14,674.00 Contributions $15,059.00 $13,365.00 Total $929,921.00 $869,812.00 Expenses Program Services $889,170.00 $854,517.00 Management & General $22,854.00 $11,509.00 Fundraising $4,594.00 $3,204.00 Total $916,618.00 $869,230.00 Expense Breakdown Program Services $ 889,170.00 $854,517.00 Management and General $22,854.00 $11,509.00 Fundraising $4,594.00 $3,204.00 Total $916,618.00 $869,230.00 2015 2014 6% 4% 3% 6% 5% 2% 1% 73% Salaries, Benefits, Taxes Contract and Professional Fees Office Rent Equipment, Supplies, Maintenance Travel, Conferences, Meetings Advertising Dues, Aid to Agencies & Individuals Bank Fees, Insurance, Depreciation 3% 6% 3% 2% 1% 4% 2% 80% Salaries, Benefits, Taxes Contract and Professional Fees Office Rent Equipment, Supplies, Maintenance Travel, Conferences, Meetings Advertising Dues, Aid to Agencies & Individuals Bank Fees, Insurance, Depreciation

HOME wins court settlement After two years, Ingrid Anderson can keep her daughter s assistance animal, a miniature horse, on her property. The case was settled in October 2016, allowing the horse to stay on the property full time. HOME and Anderson filed the lawsuit against the City of Blue Ash in February 2014 when the city ordered Anderson to remove the horse from her property due to an ordinance violation. HOME and Anderson claimed that this violated the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Fair Housing Amendments Act. *62% of all fair housing calls received were about disability *This is a 14% increase from disability calls received in 2015 Growing Legal Partnerships HOME hosted its first continuing legal education training for local attorneys. Al Gerhardstein, Esq., (Gerhardstein & Branch Co., LPA) and Matthew Horwitz, Esq., (Southern District of Ohio Department of Justice) shared insight with attendees about building fair housing cases. The training was followed by a networking portion, where attendees could talk to representatives from local social services agencies. Letter from the Director As 2016 draws to a close, I have been reflecting on the things I am most grateful for. Primarily among those is the talented HOME team and our decadeslong mission to fiercely advocate for fairness and equity for those in need. I want to publicly thank HOME s staff, clients, funders, board members, volunteers, and friends for their unwavering support and I look forward to working together in furtherance of a just community no matter what! #Keeppushin Jeniece Jones, M.P.A., J.D. *Fair housing calls received by protected class HOME is looking ahead to 2017: New funding from the Department of Housing and Urban Development to combat illegal discrimination and deploy creative outreach tactics to advance fair housing. HOME recently joined the National Community Reinvestment Coalition. We look forward to working within this partnership to ensure the increase of private, wealth-building capital into historically underserved communities. April is Fair Housing Month!
