THRIFT 01-30-2005 Mr. Benjamin G. Thrift, 83 of Friends Home West, formerly of 203 Elmwood Drive, died Saturday, January 29, 2005 at Friends Home West. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday in the sanctuary of the First Presbyterian Church of Greensboro with a reception to follow. Burial will be private. Mr. Thrift was born May 16, 1921 in Raleigh to the late Charles Boling and Beulah Johnson Thrift and was the youngest of five children. After serving in the Army during World War II, Mr. Thrift graduate from N.C. State, moved to Greensboro and went to work for Cone Mills in 1949. He retired from Cone Mills as manager of Product Development in 1981. Mr. Thrift was married for 42 years to the late Dorothy Hollowell Thrift He was an active member of the young men's bible class and a former Deacon of First Presbyterian Church of Greensboro. Mr. Thrift served as troop representative of the Irving Park Boy Scout Troop and was awarded the Order of the Arrow. Mr. Thrift was an avid golfer. He was a charter member and past president of the Greensboro Super Seniors golf group. He was a past member of the Greensboro Jaycees and marshaled at the GGO and CC of G as a Jaycee Oldtimer. Surviving are his sons B. Gibson Thrift Jr. of Marietta, Ga. and Walter C. Thrift of Greensboro. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday at Forbis and Dick Funeral Home, 1118 North Elm Street.
