A Message from the Alumni President On behalf of all the Alumni, CONGRATULATIONS TO 2012 SIMONDS GRADUATES!!! Now that you are graduating, and about to take the next step toward your future, always remember these past few years as some of the best of your life. Being a part of a bigger picture is what life is all about. Whether you go on to post secondary education or start working right away, your beginnings are right here in the halls of Simonds. Welcome to Simonds High Alumni. In Simonds, there is a small group of dedicated Alumnus s working hard to get the Alumni Association strong and involved. To do this, we need people to donate a bit of time, whenever they can, to attend events, to help with planning new events, and to help with the on-going needs of our school. We are currently looking for a few Alumni to donate their time and talents to help with the School grounds beautification project. We also need help with the Alumni website and compiling a database of Past Graduates, Staff, & Teachers. These things will all help make our Alumni a strong, involved, community-based Alumnus that works for the School and its Students. Can you spare a little time to stay involved with your Alma mater? Green & Gold Forever Acting-President Erin McPhee

News and Views... There is always something happening in the hive. We never seem to give ourselves enough credit, and with that in mind, this section of our newsletter will highlight all the good things happening around Simonds. The Simonds High Alumni has committed to help with the process of beautifying the school grounds. Over the years many memorial and dedication trees have been planted and the school s environmental club, headed by teacher Michele Banks, are working hard to honor all of those who have generously made donations. More still needs to be done and with your help we can continue to work on this worthy cause. If you are interested in helping out with this project, please contact the alumni at simondshighalumni@gmail.com and we will contact you. A shout out to the Simonds High School Cheerleaders who brought home the Provincial Banner! The girls are incredible athletes and truly were fantastic to watch. This banner belongs in our school gymnasium and is back hanging right where it belongs! Congratulations, girls! Notice for retired teachers In the past few months, a group has been organized for retired teachers of Simonds. Usually this group meets on the second Tuesday of each month for lunch and socializing. If you are interested in further details, please contact Darlene Fraser at dfraser@nbnet.nb.ca or call 849 7922. Congratulations to Erin Muir, Rylee Hayes and Hayley McLellan for being winners of the 9th annual Seabee Idol/Simonds Got Talent! We always knew that we had talent at Simonds and these ladies just proved it. Think back and remember all the bands that used to play in the theatres at Simonds Regional and Simonds High? The talent has continued to grow!! The Mathieu LeClair Fundraising Scholarship/Birthday Bash was a huge success. It can be said without a doubt that everyone had a great time and a lot of money was raised. Mathieu would have been very proud of his family and friends as they honored his special day and came together in the spirit of love and celebration of a life taken from us much too soon. One very lucky student will receive a scholarship to further their education in Mathieu s memory. Alumni Abroad Ever wanted to travel overseas but had no one to go with you? Well turn back the clock and head across the ocean with your old classmates! Have you ever thought about travelling overseas? Have you had children, nieces, nephews or friends who have travelled to Europe and you wished you could go along? Well, here is your opportunity! Judy Chapman (class of 1970), who has organized 15 trips to Europe and 5 trips to New York for Simonds students is now organizing a trip to Europe for Simonds Alumni and Friends. It is an 11-day trip to London, Paris & Amsterdam, with 3 nights stay in each city, and many inclusions. The departure date is May 12, 2013. If you are interested in this opportunity, please contact Judy at chapmanb@nbnet.nb.ca or 847 3241 for more details. Space on this tour is going quickly, so do not delay!
